Training Tomorrow’s Pharmacy Leaders in the Middle East: Inside Our Latest Partnership Training Tomorrow’s Pharmacy Leaders in the Middle East: Inside Our Latest Partnership

Advancing the world's best innovation, meeting the needs of patients, changing the course of health for humanity—that’s what we’re doing every day at Johnson & Johnson, but we aren’t doing it alone. Bringing to life game-changing innovation on such a massive scale requires partnership and collaboration.

That’s why we launched our J&J Centers for Global Health Discovery last year, a global network of research partnerships that will help take on the world’s biggest health challenges, for example. And it’s also what motivated us to team up with our newest partner in the Middle East: King Abdulaziz University College of Pharmacy in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Here’s a more in-depth look at the partnership.

Supporting Healthcare Leaders in the Middle East

Behind the partnership with King Abdulaziz University College of Pharmacy are several key objectives, including:

  • Training, developing and graduating the next generation of pharmacy leaders in the Middle East
  • Supporting research that can positively impact the lives of people in the region
  • Promoting better health outcomes and improving access to care for all

The partnership also comes at a critical moment for Saudi Arabia. Notably, the country is transforming as it brings to life the strategic vision laid out in 'Saudi Vision 2030'—a framework for curbing its dependence on oil, diversifying economically and developing sectors such as health, education, tourism and more. No less importantly, this bold undertaking is intended to create more inclusive economic opportunities for all.

Why King Abdulaziz University? Several things stand out about the school.

Its student body, for one. In addition to being the country’s largest university by total enrollment, King Abdulaziz University is a deeply inclusive environment—the majority of its students are women, for example. It’s also among the top-ranked universities in the Arab world.

Domain expertise is another. Since 2001, when King Abdulaziz University became the first school in Saudi Arabia to offer six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (or “PharmD”) degrees, the university has been steadily building its expertise in the field, and today it is recognized as a leader in the region.

Above all, we’re incredibly excited to be working with the next generation of PharmD candidates in the region. And while there are many career paths available to PharmD graduates—academia, healthcare, medicine, government and more—we hope to one day welcome some of them to our team.
