Job Description
The Transport & Trade Operations Manager is a functional management role responsible for managing import and export operations, primarily with Johnson & Johnson group companies, in compliance with all relevant regulations.
This role is accountable for monitoring and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time transportation performance, transit damage rate, timely creation of inbound data, and on-time payment to suppliers.
Key responsibilities include establishing new transportation lanes for new product launches, controlling inbound volumes to domestic receiving warehouses, managing freight costs, and handling operational issues such as cargo damage, urgent shipping requests, freight cancellations, and the collection of credit/debit notes from source sites.
The Transport & Trade Operations Manager is also expected to work closely with cross-functional stakeholders—including Demand & Supply Planning, Finance, Domestic Warehousing, Marketing, Commercial Quality, Regional Trade Operations teams, suppliers, and freight forwarders—to ensure stable, compliant, and efficient inbound operations.
Key Responsibilities
Freight cost management and optimization
Trade compliance management
On-time transportation performance management
Transit damage monitoring and resolution
Claim management (Credit/Debit reconciliation, reporting for Over/Shortage, Damage, Other non-conformance )
Regular interaction with cross-functional partners, including Marketing, Finance, QA, Regulatory, Procurement, and Regional Trade Operations
Management of freight forwarders and customs brokers
Taking timely and appropriate action with a strong sense of urgency when required
Required Experience
Three (3) years or more of business-level English proficiency (both written and verbal)
Experience in supply chain management; experience in the healthcare industry is preferred
People management experience
Supplier management experience
Experience handling customs audits
Required Skills
Business-level English proficiency and fluency in Japanese
Registered Customs Specialist (Licensed Customs Broker)
Preferred Skills
Experience with ERP and/or APS systems (e.g., JDE, SAP, APO, Manugistics, OMP, etc.)
Desired Competencies
Strong communication skills to effectively manage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
Ability to prioritize tasks and act with an appropriate sense of urgency
Willingness to share knowledge and experience with peers in addition to managing one’s own responsibilities
