Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. Job Overview

The Director, Procurement Contracting, is responsible for leading the strategy, governance, and execution of procurement contracting activities across DePuy Synthes. This role provides enterprise‑level leadership to ensure supplier contracts enable business continuity, manage risk, drive value, and support long‑term growth. The position partners closely with Procurement, Legal, Finance, Quality, and Compliance to deliver consistent, compliant, and efficient contracting outcomes in a highly regulated environment. This role has significant influence on supplier relationships, operational performance, and financial results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to the Procurement function, including the Global Services, Supplier contracting organization, on sourcing and contracting activities, including the development, risk assessment and execution of sourcing strategies and effective, efficient and innovative contracting.

  • Provide legal guidance for complex supplier negotiations by partnering with the Procurement function and Global Services contracting organization to support high value transactions (up to and including multi-million-dollar agreements.)

  • Work closely with Procurement and Supply Chain business partners to meet business needs and ensure that risks have been identified and mitigated.

  • Collaborate with Procurement and contracting teams to improve the contracting process, which may include developing and delivering legal and contracting training, harmonizing and rationalizing templates, building and refining playbooks, identifying and adopting best practices and supporting process improvement initiatives in a continued effort to streamline contract and sourcing related processes to improve timeliness, accuracy and quality

  • Serve as a senior advisor and escalation point from contracting organization for complex negotiations, disputes, and executive‑level contracting decisions.

Qualifications

Education

  • Juris Doctor with a nationally recognized law school.

  • Admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Experience and Skills

Required

  • Typically requires 10-12 years of progressive experience in commercial contracting in a top-tier major market law firm or in-house, including experience in procurement, supply chain, or manufacturing contracts.

  • Proven expertise in negotiating and managing complex, high‑value supplier contracts.

  • Strong team working skills, including relationship management, interpersonal, communication (both written and spoken) and organizational skills.

  • Strong knowledge of contracting principles, regulatory requirements, and risk management in regulated industries.

  • Strong executive presence with the ability to lead negotiations and resolve complex escalations.

Preferred

  • Experience in medical device, medtech, orthopedics, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and procurement digital tools.

  • Contract experience in early‑stage innovation, robotics, digital health, software or enabling technologies.

  • Track record of driving enterprise‑level process standardization or transformation initiatives.

Other

  • Travel: Up to 10–15% domestic and/or international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
• Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
• Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
• Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
• Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
• Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
• Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
• Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
• Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
