About the Role
Mentor, a Johnson & Johnson company, is seeking a highly motivated Engineer – Process & Continuous Improvement to support manufacturing operations and drive process excellence. This role is responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements that enhance quality, efficiency, and cost performance within a GMP/ISO-regulated environment.
The Engineer will lead and support continuous improvement initiatives, optimize equipment and process performance (OEE), and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance, operational success, and alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
- Identify, develop, and implement process improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts at the plant or business unit level, with a focus on Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Establish and maintain machine standards, process parameters, and standard work documentation.
- Drive improvements in throughput, yield, waste reduction, and equipment utilization.
Project Management
- Plan and execute engineering projects of moderate to high complexity.
- Apply structured project management tools and methodologies to ensure timely delivery and compliance with business requirements.
- Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and performance metrics to leadership.
Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Serve as a technical resource and provide engineering direction within assigned areas of responsibility.
- Develop and maintain engineering procedures, process standards, and equipment documentation.
- Challenge existing processes and introduce innovative solutions to improve performance.
Validation, Quality & Compliance
- Develop, execute, and document engineering studies, including Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Write and implement validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) and associated reports.
- Support Non-Conformance (NCR) and CAPA activities, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure full compliance with GMP, GDP, data integrity, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to equipment and process performance.
Data Analysis & Problem Solving
- Analyze manufacturing data using statistical methods to identify trends, variation, and improvement opportunities.
- Distinguish between normal and non-normal data distributions and determine root causes of variation.
- Provide technical support to production teams to resolve process and equipment-related issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Quality, Operations, Maintenance, and other functional teams to ensure alignment and execution of projects.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and external partners as needed.
- Support plant-wide initiatives such as CIM, Quality Improvement Programs (QIP), and other operational excellence efforts.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and ensure compliance with Johnson & Johnson safety standards and safe work practices.
- Adhere to all company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Escalate risks, issues, or improvement opportunities to management as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related discipline)
- Minimum of 2-4 years of engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of: Process improvement methodologies Statistical analysis and data interpretation Project management principles
- Experience working in regulated environments (GMP, ISO, or similar)
Preferred
- Experience in the medical device or regulated manufacturing industry
- Familiarity with validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ)
- Experience with OEE optimization and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
