Johnson & Johnson Medtech is recruiting for a UX Design Manager. This position is located in Santa Clara, California.
Overview:
You will lead the UX Design team within the Surgical Robotics organization, shaping OTTAVA™ and MONARCH™, Johnson & Johnson's surgical robotic systems. Upon joining our team, you will assume leadership of a group of designers who have end-to-end responsibility for the creation and delivery of designs for the digital touchpoints of the robots. In this critical role, you will translate high-level business needs into motivating plans, strategies and goals. You'll grow the designers and, in tandem with other UXD leaders, help shape a team culture that is inclusive, creative and obsessed with improving experiences for our users. We strive to create impactful work while also creating a positive environment for us all to work in.
Beyond the team, you will also interact and align within leaders across the product in Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Product Management, Project & Program Management, Robotics Controls, and Marketing. Your daily contributions will ensure that the UXD team is staffed to optimize delivery against an inspiring roadmap without sacrificing quality of the work.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead UX design activities and prioritization for the OTTAVA™ and MONARCH™ robotic systems, partnering closely with software and product leadership for design strategy and review.
- Create plans that empower our team to thrive in a way that is aligned with our business objectives and long term vision.
- Manage bi-weekly design sprints using industry standard tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence, Figma)
- Directly supervise 5 to 8 designers with varying levels of experience.
- Develop the careers of the design talent reporting to you with clear, actionable career plans and development activities.
- Participate in design critiques and reviews to help elevate the quality of our design outputs.
- Partner with fellow UXD leaders to shape the team culture and advance the team's overall impact across experiences we work on.
- Continuously improve UX design processes and tools.
Qualifications
Education:
- BA/BS degree in design, engineering, social sciences, or other relevant field.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience
- A minimum of 2 years line managing a UX design team
- Experience being a hands-on designer and fluent with typical UX design tools (Adobe Suite, Figma, Protopie, analytics engines, etc.)
- Robust understanding of the software implementation process
- Clear verbal and written communication
Preferred:
- Experience designing for medical devices
- Portfolio giving us a deeper understanding of your candidacy
Other:
- Ability to travel up to 10%, international and domestic, is required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$134,000.00 - $231,150.00Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
