THE OPPORTUNITY

The Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor — Immunology with a focus on Rheumatology, plays a pivotal role in providing medical leadership, developing and executing the local medical affairs strategy and associated initiatives to support both in market and pipeline products.

Working in close alignment with cross functional teams, the Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor will drive KOL engagement, scientific communication, medical education, and evidence and publication generation, ensuring all activities are consistent with overarching business objectives. This is a highly collaborative and influential role requiring exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills in a competitive external environment. They will design and implement medical plans that advance patient care and market shaping initiatives, while maintaining relationships with clinical thought leaders, clinical societies and patient groups so that clinical and patient perspectives meaningfully inform business decisions.

By bridging scientific innovation and clinical practice, the Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor will support in-market adoption through clear scientific communication and a strong understanding of treatment settings, patient pathways and unmet needs, while also helping inform future indications within the pipeline.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with internal business partners and external therapeutic area experts to shape the current and future treatment landscape for Rheumatology in Australia, with the goal of improving patient outcomes:

  • Lead the development and execution of the local Medical Affairs strategy and tactical plan within the Rheumatology portfolio, ensuring alignment with overarching business priorities.
  • Cross-functional collaboration providing medical leadership with in-depth therapeutic area expert knowledge to internal partners including but not limited to Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Operations, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) and Medical Excellence, and Regional and Global Medical affairs teams.
  • Lead external stakeholder engagement by developing and maintaining relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinical societies and patient organisations.
  • Drive evidence generation activities, including planning and oversight of investigator‑initiated trials, local studies and real‑world evidence projects; support publication and data‑dissemination strategies as required.
  • Review and approve promotional, educational and disease state materials to ensure medical accuracy and compliance with relevant industry codes; provide medical input during concept development.
  • Develop and implement scientific communication and medical‑education programmes; coach and mentor MSLs to enable effective field engagement, strategic data dissemination and insight generation.
  • Support cross‑functional partners in upskilling therapeutic‑area knowledge.
  • Ensure operational excellence in medical activities by managing timelines, budgets and governance Skills & Competencies

  • External engagement & partnership: Customer‑centric approach with strong skills in establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with KOLs, clinical societies, healthcare professionals and patient organisations.
  • Communication & influencing: Exceptional written and verbal scientific communication skills, including the ability to present complex data clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience or qualifications that are critical to this position
  • Medical, Pharmacy or Life Sciences qualification; an advanced degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD) is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with time in Medical Affairs (e.g., Medical Advisor/Senior Medical Advisor, Medical Manager/Senior Medical Manager).
  • Demonstrated expertise in immunology (particularly rheumatology) is highly desirable.
  • People leadership experience is desirable for appointment at the Senior Medical Advisor level.
