Position Summary
The HCC Senior Manager, Research & Development, China leads Health Care Compliance and risk management activities to support compliant Research & Development (R&D) and External Scientific Innovation (ESI) operations in China. This role partners with R&D and ESI stakeholders to identify, assess, and mitigate HCC risks in line with J&J internal guidelines, HCC/HCBI Guidelines, applicable laws and regulations, industry codes, and anti-corruption laws, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with R&D, ESI, and functional leaders to build risk acumen and proactively identify, understand, and manage HCC risks.
- Work closely with R&D and ESI executive leadership and management to serve as a strategic business partner for management and coach towards all employees; the HCC Senior Manager plays a crucial role to assure that the J&J’s culture of integrity and compliance is a natural element in day-to-day business.
- Build and engage in partnerships across functions (legal, quality, regulatory and others) and within the wider HCC team to shape compliant business solutions.
- Lead HCC managers, individual contributors, and contractors in a matrix environment to deliver strong program implementation and practical advice that enables compliant business practices (J&J guidelines, local laws and regulations, industry codes, and anti-corruption laws including the FCPA).
- Develop and retain HCC talent through regular coaching, feedback, and career conversations; build succession pipelines and manage key team operating rhythms (e.g., budget, performance, and compliance).
- Shape business practices and initiatives by influencing ethical, patient-centric decision-making and compliant engagement with Health Care Professionals and Government Officials, aligned with J&J’s HCBI Guide, HCC policies, industry codes, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Coach and influence leaders and employees to embed J&J’s Credo, Leadership Imperatives, and a culture of integrity and compliance into day-to-day decisions across R&D and ESI in China.
- Demonstrate and model an operational excellence mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation, including enabling the digital transformation of HCC R&D in China.
- Implement and maintain an effective compliance program aligned with the DOJ’s 10 Hallmarks; partner with global and regional functions to share best practices and strengthen program effectiveness.
- Engage in regional and global projects and implement cascaded global compliance strategies into the local market.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Data Analytics, Law, or related field.
- 5–10 years’ experience in compliance, audit, risk management, or monitoring, with proven ability to influence stakeholders and deliver excellence in risk & compliance management.
- Strong digital acumen; experience in shaping and applying data analytics and digital tools in the context of risk & compliance.
- Experience guiding or coaching team members or acting as a subject-matter lead.
- Strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail and ability to identify trends or anomalies.
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain monitoring findings clearly and constructively.
- Fluency in Mandarin and English; additional Asian languages are an advantage.
