Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking the best talent for a Senior Director - Business Development, Biosurgery located in Raritan, NJ.

This leader will partner closely with the Biosurgery President and Platform Operating Committee to define and implement the platform’s business development strategy, helping shape long-term growth priorities and entry strategies across key areas of interest. As a member of the Platform Operating Committee, the Senior Director will play a critical role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing strategic opportunities that accelerate growth and strengthen the Biosurgery portfolio.

The Senior Director will build and maintain key external partnerships, proactively identify unmet customer and market needs, and evaluate opportunities through rigorous research, analysis, and business case development. The role requires an experienced business development leader capable of leading complex transactions from opportunity identification through diligence, negotiation, structuring, closing, and integration, while influencing senior executives across Johnson & Johnson and external organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape and implement the Biosurgery business development strategy by developing clear, actionable recommendations aligned with platform priorities, identifying technology and growth gaps, and recommending the most impactful pathways to accelerate business growth.

  • Identify and evaluate strategic growth opportunities by scanning and scouting the external landscape for licensing, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, distribution, development and supply agreements, intellectual property opportunities, co-promotion partnerships, divestitures, auctions, and other growth initiatives driven by unmet customer and market needs.

  • Lead market intelligence and opportunity assessment activities through competitive analysis, literature reviews, patent and press release monitoring, conference and trade show engagement, networking, and other intelligence sources to identify emerging trends, risks, opportunities, and strategic implications.

  • Develop robust business cases and investment recommendations by employing screening criteria, analytical frameworks, marketplace assessments, financial models, forecasting tools, and research-based validation to assess opportunity attractiveness, critical assumptions, risks, and value creation potential.

  • Partner across the enterprise and manage key external relationships by collaborating closely with R&D, Marketing, Finance, and business leaders to evaluate opportunities, conduct due diligence, align decision-making, and cultivate long-term relationships with strategic partners and acquisition targets.

  • Lead complex transactions from strategy through execution, including due diligence, negotiation, deal structuring, contract execution, closing activities, and post-close integration planning to ensure successful onboarding of new businesses, technologies, and assets into Johnson & Johnson.

  • Provide executive communication, governance, and leadership oversight by delivering oral and written recommendations to senior leadership, preparing regular updates on active projects and competitive M&A activity, ensuring compliance with applicable company policies and procedures.

  • Support Health, Safety and Environmental requirements, leading teams in accordance with established guidelines, and communicating key business risks and opportunities to senior management.

  • Performs other duties assigned as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant business experience; alternatively, an MBA or other advanced degree with at least 7 years of relevant business experience.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and evaluating business cases for strategic growth opportunities.

  • Strong intuition for business coupled with exceptional negotiation, analytical, organizational, project management, decision-making, and influence leadership skills.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and influence diverse partner groups, including functional teams, senior leaders, executive leadership, external partners, and target organizations.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, navigate complexity, and achieve desired results across concurrent initiatives.

  • Experience leading complex transactions and strategic business development initiatives from assessment through execution.

Preferred

  • Experience in licensing, mergers and acquisitions, management consulting, investment banking, corporate development, or related strategic growth functions.

  • Experience in customer-facing, external-facing, or partnership focused leadership roles.

  • Strong analytical and operational capabilities, with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable business recommendations.

  • Experience supporting or leading initiatives within robotic surgery, digital healthcare, healthcare technology, or related innovation-focused markets.

  • Healthcare, medical device, life sciences, or related industry experience preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$178,000.00 - $307,050.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
