Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking the best talent for a Senior Director - Business Development, Robotics & Digital located in Santa Clara, CA.
This leader will collaborate with the Robotics and Digital Surgery Leadership Teams to develop and implement the business development strategy, establish entry strategies for key areas of strategic interest, and balance external relationships with existing strategic partners.
The Senior Director will identify and evaluate new growth opportunities based on unmet customer and market needs, develop business cases through research and analysis, and deliver recommendations to J&J management. This leader will often lead the negotiation, structuring, and closing of deals, requiring strong strategic, commercial, analytical, and relationship-management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, recommend, and implement business development strategies that are clearly aligned with platform priorities, while identifying technological and growth gaps and recommending strategic pathways to advance the Robotics & Digital Surgery business.
Scan, scout, and assess potential new business opportunities based on unmet customer and market needs, including licensing, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, distribution, development and supply agreements, intellectual property, co-promotion opportunities, divestitures, auctions, and other strategic growth initiatives.
Gather, analyze, and communicate market and competitive intelligence by reviewing published literature, patents, press releases, conference and trade show insights, professional networks, and other intelligence sources to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and strategic implications.
Develop and validate robust business cases for new opportunities by applying screening criteria, models, tools, marketplace analysis, financial and forecasting models, and research-based validation to assess opportunity attractiveness, critical assumptions, risks, and value creation potential.
Partner effectively across internal and external partners by collaborating with business leaders, R&D, Marketing, Finance, internal business partners, external targets, and strategic partners to assess opportunities, build alignment, maintain relationships, and support decision-making.
Lead complex transactions from evaluation through execution, including coordinating and participating in due diligence, leading negotiation, deal structuring, and closing activities, and guiding integration teams to support the successful integration of new businesses and assets into J&J.
Provide leadership communication, governance, and compliance oversight by delivering oral and written presentations to J&J management, preparing regular reports and summaries on internal business development projects and competitive M&A activity, communicating business issues and opportunities to the next management level, leading teams in accordance with appropriate guidelines, ensuring applicable Health, Safety and Environmental practices are followed where relevant, supporting personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local, and Company regulations, policies, and procedures, and performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of business experience, or an MBA or other advanced degree with at least 7 years of relevant business experience.
Experience developing business cases for strategic opportunities.
Strong business, negotiation, organizational, project management, analytical, decision-making, and influence leadership skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with and influence a broad range of business leaders, both internally and externally, across levels ranging from functional partners to senior company leaders.
Ability to prioritize tasks and lead several projects simultaneously.
Experience leading complex transactions.
Preferred
Robotics, MedTech, and/or healthcare experience.
Licensing, mergers and acquisitions, consulting, or banking experience.
Experience in a customer-facing or external-facing role.
Strong analytical and operational skills.
Experience working on robotic surgery and digital healthcare initiatives.
Healthcare industry experience.

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
