Job Description:

R&D Co-Op Spring 2027

The Aesthetics & Reconstruction Business Unit, part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, is recruiting for an R&D Engineering Co-op for the Spring 2027 semester (January–June) in Irving, Texas.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech develops, manufactures, and markets innovative, science-based products for surgical medical procedures that improve patients’ quality of life. As a leader in the global aesthetic market, the Aesthetics & Reconstruction business focuses on advancing solutions for breast reconstruction and augmentation.

The Aesthetics & Reconstruction portfolio includes clinically supported products and technologies designed to help patients restore confidence and improve quality of life. Our product portfolio primarily consists of breast implants and tissue expanders used in both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Based in Irving, Texas, our multidisciplinary teams collaborate across research, development, manufacturing, and quality to bring innovative products from concept to commercialization.

Co-op students will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers in a dynamic R&D environment. Responsibilities may include developing test methods, designing fixtures and prototype components, evaluating prototypes through benchtop testing, supporting studies in preclinical models, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external suppliers. Students will gain hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful projects that support the development of next-generation medical technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, fabrication, and testing of prototypes using CAD and rapid prototyping
  • Generation of part, assembly, and drawing files of various components, prototypes, and test fixtures in SolidWorks
  • Development and execution of test methods to characterize new products
  • Coordination with marketing, outside suppliers and our manufacturing site
  • Hands-on work in the engineering lab and documentation of activities

Qualifications

  • Junior, Senior, or Graduate student at an accredited college/university at time of co-op.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work in a team environment.
  • Able to create and modify CAD drawings, design test fixtures.
  • Knowledge in the field of engineering - courses and lab experience required.

Preferred:

  • Majors in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
  • GPA of 3.0.
  • Demonstrated leadership/participation in campus programs or community service activities.
  • Must be able to commit to a 40-hour work week (standard business hours) during Spring 2027 semester.
  • Must have the ability to travel to the Irving, TX site (relocation is not provided).

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
