SECTION 1: JOB SUMMARY*
- Responsible for site Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), including ensuring operations are in compliance with local and corporative EHS&S regulations.
- Manages one direct report and is accountable for conducting effective performance management.
- Develops tactical, operational, and resource plans for the EHS&S team and supports organizational objectives and business goals.
- Directs operations for strategic initiatives and serves as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, including the Site Leadership Team.
SECTION 2: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*
In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and DePuy Synthes procedures and guidelines, this position shall be responsible for the following:
- Shared responsibility with Plant Manager for EHS&S performance, including development and implementation of site management action plans to address EHS&S program deficiencies and ensure EHS&S regulatory compliance.
- Develop EHS&S objectives for site - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on implementation and effectiveness to management via dashboards & reports.
- Manage site EHS&S professionals and consultants at local facility. Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling, develop and monitor employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning processes.
- Monitor and evaluate EH&S risks of operations, including change management, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS&S program to make it leaner and more efficient. Provide management with ongoing consultation pertaining to EHS&S regulations and identify any impact on key business objectives.
- Support and facilitate site EHS&S teams to ensure implementation of the EHS&S programs; including collaborating with other functions to manage EHS&S aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers, and contractor programs.
- Develop and implement EHS&S training strategy, ensuring key risks and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.
- Maintain ISO 14001 certification by ensuring site EHS&S management systems are aligned & maintained consistently with the ISO standard.
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
- Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability practices as applicable.
- Ensuring subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other duties assigned as needed.
SECTION 3: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION*
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 10+ years of EH&S related experience
- NEBOSH Certificate required. NEBOSH Diploma preferred.
- Medical device manufacturing (highly desirable) or related industry with strong regulatory oversight.
- Technical experience in diverse EHS&S areas including but not limited to air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and chemical handling is highly desirable.
- Demonstrate project management skills are required and individuals must have technical/working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
- Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
- Internet, intranet and database tools (internal and external) as needed to support the EHS&S function preferred.

SECTION 6: ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS ☐ This Section is Not Applicable
- Ability to work in controlled environments, such as clean rooms.
- Ability to wear personal protective clothing and other equipment, including lab coat/ clean room gown.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Safety testing and medical surveillance requirements, if applicable.
- Must follow applicable local regulations and Company guidelines related to health, safety, and environmental practices.
SECTION 7: Responsibility for Others & Internal Interactions
- The EHS Manager will work closely with Managers/Team leaders to develop and implement EHS programs to meet DePuy Synthes EHS goals and objectives.
- The EHS Manager shall supervisor the EHS staff at the DePuy Synthes Leeds and Blackpool facilities.
- The EHS Manager shall report to the Regional Director of EHS&S.
SECTION 8: LOCATION & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- This role shall be located at the DePuy Synthes Leeds facility.
- 100% of the time on site
- This role may require approximately 5-10% travel, both domestic and international
SECTION 9: EXTERNAL INTERACTIONS
- Routine interaction with EH&S regulatory agencies, laboratory contractors/service providers, and industry associations is required.
