DS Global Payroll Automation Sr. Analyst
Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Position Summary:
The Payroll Automation Sr. Analyst is responsible for leading the strategy, design, and delivery of automation solutions that support payroll operations, compliance, and reporting. This role partners Payroll, HR, Finance, and IT to identify opportunities, gather requirements, and implement scalable automation solutions across platforms such as Alteryx, UiPath, Azure, and Power BI. The position plays a key role in improving accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across end-to-end payroll processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Payroll Process Automation & Optimization:
- Identify and prioritize automation opportunities across payroll processes (gross-to-net calculations, validations, reconciliations, reporting, tax support).
- Drive standardization and simplification of payroll workflows across regions or business units.
- Ensure automation solutions align with payroll compliance requirements, audit controls, and data privacy standards.
2. Requirements Gathering & Process Design:
- Work closely with Payroll, HR, Tax, and Finance stakeholders to gather detailed business and technical requirements.
- Document current-state vs. future-state payroll processes, including upstream/downstream dependencies (HRIS, time systems, GL, tax vendors).
- Translate complex payroll rules (earnings, deductions, taxes) into automation logic.
3. Solutioning & Development:
- Design and build automation solutions leveraging:
Alteryx for payroll data transformation, validation, and reconciliation workflows.
UiPath for RPA (file movement, system interaction, repetitive payroll tasks).
Azure for web apps, data storage, integration, and scalable processing.
- Ensure solutions are scalable across multiple payroll cycles, countries, and regulatory environments.
- Implement strong error handling, logging, and audit traceability.
4. Deployment & Production Support:
- Manage end-to-end deployment of payroll automation solutions, including testing (parallel runs, UAT), validation, and release.
- Coordinate with payroll calendars and critical cycles (weekly, biweekly, monthly) to minimize risk.
- Provide production support and issue resolution during payroll processing cycles.
- Maintain documentation for audit and SOX compliance.
5. Payroll Reporting & Analytics:
- Develop and oversee Power BI dashboards for:
Payroll reconciliation and variance analysis.
Headcount, cost, and tax reporting.
KPIs such as cycle time, error rates, and processing accuracy.
- Enhance visibility into payroll data to support decision-making and compliance.
6. Governance, Risk & Compliance:
- Establish and enforce automation governance frameworks aligned with payroll controls.
- Ensure compliance with SOX, internal audit, and external regulatory requirements.
- Maintain appropriate segregation of duties within automation solutions.
7. Leadership & Stakeholder Management:
- Lead and mentor automation developers and analysts supporting payroll functions.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Payroll Operations, IT, and external vendors (e.g., ADP, EY, Fidelity).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote automation adoption across payroll teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in payroll operations, payroll technology, or automation roles.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processes, including taxes, filings, and reporting.
- Hands-on experience with:
Alteryx (data prep, reconciliation workflows).
UiPath (RPA development and orchestration).
Azure (web apps, data integration, cloud services).
Power BI (dashboarding and analytics).
- Demonstrated experience in requirements gathering, solution design, and deployment.
- Experience working with payroll systems (e.g., SAP, Workday, ADP).
- Experience with global payroll operations.
- Knowledge of SOX controls and audit frameworks.
- Experience integrating payroll data with finance systems (GL, reporting platforms).
- Familiarity with file transfer protocols (SFTP), encryption (PGP), and data governance standards.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly with large payroll datasets.
- Ability to translate payroll/business requirements into technical solutions.

The position requires working with Global teams in NA, EMEA, LATAM and ASPAC time.
The position will require global engagement with a percent of travel associated with them.
