DePuy Synthes, one of the world’s most comprehensive orthopaedics businesses, is recruiting a Surgical Innovation Manager to lead strategic commercial initiatives across the Sports Surgical portfolio.


The Surgical Innovation Manager is a commercial leadership role accountable for owning the strategy, planning, coordination, and execution of priority Sports Surgical innovation initiatives across an assigned geography. This leader will set direction, establish clear priorities, and mobilize Sales, Marketing, Commercial Education, Professional Education, Strategic Accounts, and enabling functions to deliver compliant growth, competitive conversions, successful product launches, and sustained portfolio adoption. Serving as the primary commercial owner for new product introductions and strategic innovation programs, the Manager will define execution plans, clarify decision rights and stakeholder accountabilities, track performance against measurable objectives, identify and resolve barriers, and provide leadership with timely recommendations. The role influences through the organization, leads complex cross-functional work without direct authority, and partners closely with Area Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, distributors, key customers, and internal business leaders to ensure consistent, high-quality execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and own the regional commercial strategy and operating plan for Sports Surgical innovation priorities, translating enterprise and business-unit objectives into clear field actions, milestones, and measurable outcomes for key priority accounts.
  • Coordinate and align Area Vice Presidents, Regional Managers, distributors, Marketing, Commercial Education, Professional Education, Strategic Accounts, Finance, Supply Chain, and other partners around a unified execution plan.
  • Own launch readiness and execution for new products and strategic programs, including market prioritization, customer targeting, field enablement, inventory coordination, risk identification, launch governance, performance tracking, and corrective actions.
  • Lead high-value evaluations and competitive conversions by establishing account strategies, clarifying stakeholder roles, guiding execution, and ensuring disciplined follow-through through adoption and portfolio pull-through.
  • Set priorities and make informed business recommendations using market intelligence, customer insights, competitive dynamics, pipeline data, and financial considerations to focus resources on the highest-impact opportunities.
  • Own portfolio growth plans across soft-tissue implants and disposables, arthroscopic capital equipment, biologics, and related procedural solutions while ensuring alignment with company policy, strategic direction, and customer needs.
  • Lead the development and implementation of sales education in partnership with Commercial Education, ensuring the field is compliantly trained on safe and effective product use, procedural knowledge, clinical value, competitive differentiation, and strategic selling skills.
  • Establish governance and accountability mechanisms, including operating cadences, dashboards, milestone reviews, decision logs, and clear action owners; escalate material risks and recommend solutions to leadership.
  • Influence and lead across functions by building a strong internal network with R&D, Marketing, HCC, Legal, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Finance, and other partners to accelerate decisions and resolve complex execution barriers.
  • Engage customers and key opinion leaders to gather actionable insights, respond to product and procedural questions, address objections consistent with approved methodologies, and inform commercial strategies and future innovation priorities.
  • Build strategic partnerships with Academic Medical Centers, fellowship programs, professional societies, and future orthopedic leaders to expand education, advocacy, and organizational connectivity.
  • Develop and communicate field strategies for professional education and society meetings, ensuring coordinated objectives, effective resource deployment, and clear post-event follow-through.
  • Provide visible leadership during critical field challenges, taking ownership of issue resolution, coordinating appropriate resources, and ensuring timely communication to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Model a culture of ownership, accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement by challenging assumptions, simplifying ways of working, sharing best practices, and raising commercial execution standards across the organization.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required (BA/BS).
  • A Masters degree (MA/MS/MBA) is highly preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • A valid driver’s license in one of the fifty United States is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in medical device, orthopaedics, Sports Surgical sales, marketing, commercial strategy, or a related field is required; Sports Surgical experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional commercial initiatives from strategy through execution and measurable business results is required.
  • Proven ability to own business plans, establish priorities, make sound decisions, manage competing demands, and hold stakeholders accountable without relying on direct authority is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading product launches, customer evaluations, competitive conversions, portfolio expansion, or field enablement programs is strongly preferred.
  • Strong strategic and financial acumen, including the ability to synthesize market intelligence, customer insights, pipeline data, and performance metrics into clear recommendations and action plans.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior commercial leaders, field sales teams, Marketing, Strategic Accounts, Finance, R&D, HCC, Legal, Regulatory, external distributors, and key opinion leaders.
  • Executive-level written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex strategies clearly, drive alignment, and provide concise updates to leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership presence, sound judgment, change leadership, and the ability to navigate ambiguity, resolve conflict, and maintain execution discipline in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset and a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for revenue growth, competitive differentiation, operational improvement, and customer value creation.
  • Ability to operate autonomously while maintaining appropriate governance, stakeholder engagement, and escalation discipline.
  • Expertise in Sports Surgical products, relevant clinical and surgical procedures, the competitive landscape, and consultative selling methodologies is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare compliance, regulatory policies, and procedures, with demonstrated commitment to ethical and compliant decision-making.
  • Documented successful commercial performance, including growth, performance versus plan, strategic account targeting, and execution through structured action plans.
  • Candidates must be located within 90 minutes of an airport within the assigned geography and be able to travel 50–75% within the United States.

On October 14, 2025, Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals.

It is anticipated following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes, and your employment would be governed by Orthopaedics employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. Details of any planned changes would be provided to you by Orthopaedics at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$114,000.00 - $182,850.00

For Bay Area:

$131,000.00 - $210,450.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).



This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.



Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days
