From the military to pharmaceutical manufacturing: You can find a meaningful new career with J&J
The path from military service to specialized drug manufacturing might not seem like a straight line, but the best careers often take interesting turns. The skills you built during your military career—leadership, adaptability and problem-solving—translate well to many jobs, including roles in biomanufacturing.
When you are ready to transition to a civilian career, those skills could help you thrive at J&J. Our Credo guides our decisions, and our continuous learning mindset means you will never be bored working here. You will find passionate mentors who will help you build on your specialized experience. J&J is committed to helping the military-connected community discover fulfilling roles tackling the world’s toughest health challenges.
“There is no better community that understands how to serve a greater purpose and instill and live by strong values than the military,” said Kathy W., J&J’s Chief Technical Operations and Risk Officer.
That was the message when we recently joined the Manufacturing Institute’s Heroes MAKE America career fair in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Kathy highlighted the many ways veterans and the military-connected community can make a lasting impact at J&J in manufacturing roles.
“By hiring veterans, we’re able to build strong teams and resilient operations. In fact, we are proud that Johnson & Johnson is #2 on the Military Times: Best for Vets, Employers list, up from #7 last year,” Kathy added.
Our dedication to veterans has also earned us other notable recognition such as:
- Military Friendly® gold employer for 2025
- Military Times Best for Vets employer in 2024
- Military Friendly® gold spouse employer for 2025
“J&J is proud to support Heroes MAKE America, and this incredible work to create a bridge for talented servicemembers and veterans interested in pursuing manufacturing careers,” Kathy said.
The career fair wasn’t far from where we’re currently building a state-of-the-art biomanufacturing facility in Wilson, NC. At this new facility, the team will be producing innovative medicines for cancer, immune-mediated and neurological diseases. When fully operational, the site will employ approximately 420 full-time, highly skilled employees.

Carolyn Lee, President and Executive Director of the Manufacturing Institute, drew a connection between veterans’ work experience in the military, and the qualities manufacturers look for to staff their teams.
“Everyone here today who’s served their country has demonstrated the leadership, discipline, problem-solving, teamwork, technical expertise, and work ethic to thrive in manufacturing,” she said. “We are passionate about doing our part to thank our nation’s heroes by easing their transition and offering them a pathway to rewarding civilian careers.”
