Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a(n) Sr. Mgr, LATAM Comms & External Affairs, located in São Paulo, Brazil.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

This role is a key leadership position responsible for shaping and executing communications and external affairs strategies across Latin America. The Sr. Manager will partner with regional and global leaders to strengthen the company’s reputation, elevate the brand, and build trusted relationships with external stakeholders, including media, government, and community organizations. This is an exciting opportunity to influence high-impact communications strategies in a dynamic and growing region while helping position DePuy Synthes as a leader in orthopedics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute integrated communications and external affairs strategies for the LATAM region aligned with business priorities
• Lead creation of high-quality internal and external communications, including media materials, leadership messaging, and digital content
• Manage relationships with media, government entities, and key external stakeholders to support reputation and policy objectives
• Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leaders on communications planning, messaging, and risk mitigation
• Drive proactive storytelling to enhance brand awareness and position the business as a thought leader in the market
• Oversee crisis communications planning and response to protect and strengthen organizational reputation
• Coordinate with global and regional teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across markets and channels
• Monitor external environment, including policy, industry trends, and stakeholder perceptions, and translate insights into actionable strategies
• Support advocacy efforts, coalitions, and partnerships with public sector organizations and industry groups
• Lead and develop communications initiatives across owned digital and social platforms to deliver a consistent brand experience

Qualifications

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree required (Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Public Affairs, or related field)
• Master’s degree (e.g., MBA or MA in Communications/Public Affairs) preferred

Experience and Skills:

Required:
• 8-10 years of experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or external affairs functions
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing regional or global communications strategies
• Strong media relations and stakeholder engagement experience, including government or public sector exposure
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear messaging
• Experience managing issues, crisis communications, and reputation management initiatives
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence senior stakeholders across regions
• Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Preferred:
• Experience supporting communications in Latin America or working with cross-cultural, multinational teams
• Background in healthcare, medical devices, or regulated industries
• Experience leading or mentoring team members
• Familiarity with digital communications strategies, social media, and content development
• Experience working with advocacy groups, trade associations, or policy organizations
• Proven track record of building brand awareness and thought leadership initiatives

• Travel: Up to 25–30% international travel
• Certifications: Not required
• Valid driver’s license: Not required
