Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Sr. Manager, Law, Switzerland, located in Zug/Zuchwil Switzerland.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

This role provides senior legal support for DePuy Synthes operations across Switzerland and Europe. The position partners closely with business leaders to ensure that operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies while enabling business growth. This is an opportunity to lead regional legal strategies, manage risk, and influence decision-making in a dynamic, international healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to commercial and functional teams across Switzerland on business, operational, and strategic initiatives. Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of commercial agreements, including sales, marketing, procurement, supply, service, and partnership contracts.
  • Partner with key business stakeholders and manufacturing site leadership to provide legal support for the day-to-day operations of the Switzerland manufacturing entities, including manufacturing, supply chain, quality, regulatory, EHS, and other operational matters.
  • Provide legal support for Swiss legal entities and corporate governance matters, including board and shareholder actions, entity maintenance, corporate approvals, and related governance requirements.
  • Manage external counsel and legal spend, ensuring efficient delivery of high-quality legal support and effective resolution of legal matters.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to develop practical legal solutions that support growth objectives while appropriately managing risk.
  • Advise on healthcare, MedTech, competition, and commercial regulatory requirements impacting operations in Switzerland.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and compliance risks and support implementation of risk management strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams including Commercial, Finance, Human Resources, Compliance, and Supply Chain.
  • Manage disputes, product liability cases, investigations, and other legal matters in coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel as appropriate.
  • Lead or support legal projects, policy implementation initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor changes in legal and regulatory requirements and proactively provide guidance and training to impacted stakeholders.
  • Champion innovation in legal service delivery through adoption of technology, automation, and modern legal operations practices.
  • Reimagine legal workflows and operating models to deliver legal services more efficiently to drive greater business value

Qualifications

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Juris Doctor (JD), Swiss law degree, or equivalent legal qualification required.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction required.

Preferred:

  • Advanced legal specialization or postgraduate qualification in Commercial Law, Healthcare Law, Regulatory Law, or Compliance.

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • 8-10 years of legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or similar legal environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial law and legal frameworks impacting healthcare, medical devices, or regulated industries.
  • Significant experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and manage legal and compliance risks in a business environment.
  • Proven ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice and influence senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience working in matrix organizations.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience supporting Switzerland and/or broader European markets.
  • Experience within the healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or MedTech industry.
  • Knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements and industry codes of practice.
  • Experience supporting business transformation, restructuring, or organizational change initiatives.
  • Familiarity with legal operations, contract lifecycle management systems, and legal technology solutions.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to balance legal risk and commercial opportunity.
  • Experience collaborating with global and cross-functional teams.

Other

  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English required. German preferred. French and/or Italian language skills are advantageous.
  • Certifications: Active bar admission or equivalent legal qualification preferred and maintained as applicable.
