Job Description:

Phaco Specialist

Purpose of the Role

The Phaco Specialist is responsible for providing clinical, technical, and commercial support for Surgical Vision products, particularly within cataract surgery (phacoemulsification). This role partners closely with specialty physicians, healthcare professionals, and cross-functional teams to drive clinical adoption, deliver customer value, and achieve business growth.


Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical & Surgical Support

  • Provide in-theatre (OR) support during cataract procedures using phacoemulsification systems
  • Advise ophthalmologists and healthcare professionals on clinical techniques, product usage, and surgical optimization
  • Support customer accounts in improving surgical outcomes, workflow efficiency, and patient care
  • Act as a clinical expert on phaco systems, intraocular lenses (IOLs), and related ophthalmic solutions


Training & Capability Building

  • Deliver product training, in-service education, and clinical workshops for surgeons, nurses, and OT staff
  • Support capability development initiatives for physicians adopting or advancing phaco techniques
  • Partner with marketing and medical teams on education programs, congress activities, and innovation initiatives

Sales & Business Support

  • Contribute to Clinical Sales – Specialty Physicians initiatives by supporting account growth and market penetration
  • Generate and implement growth initiatives through analysis of market trends, customer insights, and competitive landscape
  • Support sales strategies by providing clinical differentiation and data-driven customer retention approaches
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to achieve sales objectives and strengthen competitive positioning

Customer & Account Management

  • Build strong relationships with ophthalmologists, KOLs, and key hospital stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to expand product utilization and develop new business within assigned accounts
  • Provide ongoing post-sales support, including troubleshooting and case follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction

Strategy & Innovation

  • Contribute to projects, programs, and innovative initiatives to advance Clinical Sales strategy
  • Integrate insights from analytics, market trends, and customer feedback to continuously improve business performance
  • Support the development of customer-centric, data-driven strategies to enhance retention and growth

Compliance & Credo-Based Leadership

  • Ensure adherence to Johnson & Johnson policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Understand and apply Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in all interactions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer engagements, training activities, and feedback


Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, Nursing, Optometry, or related field

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in medical device sales or clinical support
  • Experience in ophthalmology, especially cataract or phaco systems, is preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical aptitude in ophthalmology and surgical environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to provide hands-on support in operating room settings
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Customer-focused with strong influencing and relationship-building capabilities
