12 employee benefits that make J&J a great company
Generous parental leave? Check. Support for mental well-being? Check. Here are some of the ways the company stands out when it comes to built-in benefits for its more than 130,000 employees.
At J&J, superior employee benefits are nothing new. The company has been a trailblazer for more than a century when it comes to supporting its workforce both in the office and outside of it. As a company that cares about employees, we take a comprehensive approach to wellness that focuses on physical, mental, emotional and financial well-being.
We’ve rounded up a sampling of the great offerings and perks that J&J employees and their loved ones benefit from.
1. Well-being reimbursement

The Global Well-Being Reimbursement benefit helps employees fund the health and well-being activities of their choice, such as healthy eating, healthy movement, healthy mind, and recharge and recovery
Through this popular program, employees can be reimbursed for activities that support their total well-being journey like:
- Virtual subscriptions for fitness classes and mindfulness apps
- Home gym equipment
- Virtual or in-person cooking classes
- Healthy meal delivery services
- And more!
2. Time off to focus on loved ones

J&J knows how important spending time with loved ones is—especially during times of need. That’s why the company provides 10 days of paid leave annually for all employees globally to care for an immediate family member with critical illness or injury.
When faced with the death of a loved one, employees can take up to 30 business days of paid bereavement leave for the loss of an immediate family member and five business days for the loss of an extended family member.
3. Adoption, fertility and surrogacy benefits

Welcoming a little one into your home can be an exciting, but also costly and stressful, process. To help support employees who are eager to expand their families, J&J offers assistance with fertility treatments, adoption and surrogacy in the United States.
The company offers financial assistance for fertility treatments per couple, depending on what company insurance plan the employee is enrolled in. Employees wishing to adopt can receive $20,000 in reimbursement benefits per child. Surrogacy benefits are also $20,000 per child.
4. Medical travel benefits

J&J covers travel expenses for eligible medical services not available from any in-network or out-of-network provider within 100 miles of an employee’s home. This benefit applies to U.S. employees as well as their families.
5. Mental well-being resources

J&J global employees have access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to help them strike the right blend between work and life, locate a mental health counselor—and a whole lot more. These digital mental well-being resources support employees in managing stress, building resilience and developing skills to adapt to change.
Plus, U.S. employees and their families have access to additional mental health resources so they can get the support they need anytime, anywhere. These tools include live sessions with behavioral coaches for help dealing everything from anxiety to self-esteem and cyberbullying, not to mention virtual therapy for a number of purposes, including anxiety, depression, burnout and more.
6. Global parental leave and support

Across the globe, J&J offers all employees—maternal, paternal, adoptive, surrogacy-assisted or foster parents—12 weeks of paid leave that can be taken during the first year of a new child’s arrival into their family.
To further support working families in the U.S., J&J provides additional resources, including access to customized care plan through our Family Concierge benefit. Services include expert support, one-on-one assistance and proactive guidance (via phone, email, text or video) as well as personalized content and webinars.
7. Breast milk shipping

Traveling for business can be particularly challenging for moms who are breastfeeding, so J&J instituted a unique delivery service that lets mothers who work at the company worldwide ship breast milk home for free.
Mothers who will be traveling can preorder breast milk packaging—a temperature-controlled box pre-cleared for customs—for shipping in advance.
8. Military benefits

Employees enlisted in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard or Military Reserve who are called for training or active duty, as well as to help in the case of a natural disaster, receive full pay for up to three years and a continuation of benefits—in addition to what the U.S. Armed Forces pays them.
The company also offers another notable benefit for these service members: the ability to take paid time off once they return from duty before going back to work.
Military spouses receive benefits, too. They’re given up to two weeks of paid time off for certain military-required family events, such as military moves, extended deployments and lengthy National Guard or Reserve activations.
9. Time to give back

At J&J, making a difference doesn’t stop at the workplace—it extends into our communities. That’s why all full-time employees are eligible for up to four fully paid days each year to volunteer with qualified nonprofit organizations in the communities where we live and work.
Whether you're mentoring students, distributing meals at a shelter, leading a team walk for cancer research, or participating in an environmental cleanup, your time matters—and it’s supported. Employees can take these days all at once or spread them throughout the year in half-day or full-day increments. You're even eligible on day one of your employment.
10. Special needs assistance

Supporting employees’ families means recognizing that every child’s developmental journey is unique. That’s why J&J offers comprehensive benefits for U.S. employees whose children have developmental delays or pervasive developmental disorders. This includes coverage for essential services such as speech, occupational, and physical therapy.
In addition, employees can access a dedicated Special Needs Support Program. This expert resource helps parents understand and navigate the often-complex educational landscape. Whether you're advocating for an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or looking for local support networks, the program provides one-on-one guidance to help your child thrive at every stage.
11. College coaching

Preparing for college can be overwhelming—for both students and parents. That’s why J&J offers a no-cost college coaching benefit to help U.S. employees guide their children through every step of the process.
Through this program, families receive personalized support from former admissions and financial aid officers with everything from researching schools to crafting standout applications, understanding financial aid packages and applying for student loans.
You’ll have expert help every step of the way. It’s just one more way J&J helps families plan for a bright future.
12. Pet insurance

Pet health insurance at J&J covers dogs, cats, birds, rabbits—even lizards and ferrets!
There are two levels of coverage offered in the U.S.: Employees can enroll their pets in a preventive care plan, which covers check-ups, vaccines and preventive medications. Or they can opt for a higher-level plan that also covers illnesses and injuries.
