We are searching for the best talent for APJ Technology Leader, Heart Recovery.
Purpose: The APJ Technology Leader for Heart Recovery drives regional technology strategy and outcomes across the end-to-end value chain, spanning IT partnership for Commercial, Supply Chain, and R&D. Initially operating as the only IT leader in the region, this role requires exceptional self-sufficiency, proactive problem solving, and the ability to build trusted relationships quickly across APJ markets and functions. The leader will actively shape and size demand with regional stakeholders as it builds the regional portfolio and regional team. Delivery will occur either through global squads, or by developing high performing teams with local APJ resources for market-specific needs (e.g., regulatory, localization, deployment and adoption). This role is accountable for portfolio governance, budget oversight, and value realization, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned to global standards while meeting APJ business outcomes.
Location: Role to be based in Tokyo, Japan or Singapore.
Reports to the Heart Recovery CIO.
You will be responsible for:
Strategy & demand shaping: Build deep relationships with APJ leaders to understand priorities, proactively identify opportunities, and translate needs into a clear, sequenced technology roadmap and demand pipeline.
Product & platform operating model: Represent APJ needs to global product and platform owners; define requirements, size work, manage dependencies, and drive reuse of global capabilities over local build.
Portfolio, budget & value: Lead intake, prioritization, and governance; build and manage the in-scope budget from the ground up across technology investments and people; define OKRs and metrics; and track value realization and portfolio health.
Delivery, deployment & adoption: Orchestrate end-to-end delivery with global squads and APJ teams; drive release readiness, change management, training, and sustained adoption. Initial phase is to:
Stabilize and shape the APJ demand funnel
Establish portfolio and governance operating rhythm
Drive adoption of the first wave of APJ deployments
Risk, security & compliance: Ensure solutions meet security, privacy, and quality/compliance expectations; surface and resolve risks early and escalate when needed.
Stakeholder leadership: Serve as a trusted technology advisor for APJ—align country and regional stakeholders, communicate decisions and trade-offs, and connect APJ demand to global roadmaps and squads.
Collaboration: Work in close collaboration with MedTech APAC, ensuring alignment and leveraging existing regional capabilities and solutions.
Talent & culture: Lead by influence, coach teams, and reinforce product ways of working and a user- and outcomes-centric culture.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Given that APJ is not a monolithic environment, the candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of the technical nuances of delivering technology across a highly diverse region (e.g., varying regulatory and data-residency requirements, infrastructure maturity, integration landscapes, localization needs, and deployment/adoption constraints).
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred.
8+ years in technology/digital/product leadership, with sustained partnership with senior business leaders.
Experience defining roadmaps and leading delivery in a matrixed, cross-geography environment.
Experience governing a technology portfolio and budget, including prioritization, forecasting, and value tracking (OKRs/metrics).
Fluency translating between business outcomes and technology solutions; strong executive communication.
Working knowledge of product ways of working (Agile, discovery, experimentation) and of security, privacy, and compliance in regulated environments.
Highly self-sufficient and proactive; able to operate effectively in ambiguity and as a “team of one” while mobilizing global and local partners to deliver outcomes.
Preferred Experience
Heart Recovery/cardiovascular or adjacent MedTech commercial operations experience (CRM, field enablement, training/education, analytics).
Hands-on experience working with global product squads and shared platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, data platforms, integration) to deliver regional outcomes.
APJ multi-market experience: localization, market deployment, and partnering with country organizations.
Vendor/partner management and contract/value optimization.
Proficiency in Chinese (Mandarin) and/or Japanese is preferred to manage key stakeholder groups from China and Japan.
Leadership Behaviors
Our Credo: Lead with patients and customers first; act with integrity and accountability.
Compete: Focus on what matters most, bring external perspective, and raise the bar for performance and outcomes.
Execute & Optimize: Deliver with speed and discipline; simplify, learn, and improve continuously.
Be J&J Direct: Be clear and candid, with care—build trust, inclusion, and high-performing teams.
