Johnson & Johnson is currently seeking a Product Development Engineering Co-Op to join our ECP Product Development Team located in Danvers, MA.

Requirements:

The ECP Product Development Engineering Co-Op will work alongside a cross-functional team developing next-generation heart pump and vascular access technologies. This is a highly hands-on opportunity focused on designing, building, and evaluating medical device components, test fixtures, and engineering concepts. The co-op may be expected to contribute to:

  • Planning and executing hands-on bench testing, including feasibility, characterization, simulated-use, and design verification testing of medical device components and systems.

  • Developing and improving test methods by defining procedures, selecting equipment, designing fixtures, troubleshooting setups, and assessing measurement repeatability and robustness.

  • Creating and iterating mechanical designs for product components, prototypes, and test fixtures using 3D CAD; support prototype fabrication through 3D printing, machining, or other rapid-prototyping methods.

  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting test data; summarize results, identify trends or failure modes, and present conclusions and recommendations to the engineering team.

  • Supporting root cause investigations and design improvements through structured experimentation, inspection, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Documenting test procedures, experimental results, design work, and engineering conclusions in clear technical reports and presentations while collaborating with Product Development, Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and other partners.

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and enthusiasm for hands-on laboratory work, building test setups, and troubleshooting hardware.

  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design, engineering mechanics, experimental methods, and data analysis, with the ability to apply classroom concepts to practical engineering problems.

  • Experience with 3D CAD software; SOLIDWORKS is preferred.

  • Ability to organize and analyze data using tools such as Microsoft Excel; experience with statistical analysis software is a plus.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple assignments while working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Prior experience with prototyping, machining, 3D printing, laboratory testing, test method development, or medical device projects is preferred but not required.

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
