Purpose: The Associate Director, Market Research is responsible for leading market research across the Solid Tumor pipeline as assets transition from early business development into commercial launch planning. The role will initially concentrate on Erda iDRS and will expand to support additional priority Solid Tumor pipeline assets as they enter the 18-month launch-readiness horizon. The individual will also provide targeted market research support for in-line assets based on business priorities and available funding.
This individual will closely partner with cross-functional teams across early development, commercial strategy, marketing, sales, medical, and other business functions to deliver business-building recommendations, shape development and launch decisions, and drive organizational action. The position plays a key role in advising leadership, establishing foundational market understanding for emerging assets, and guiding evidence-based strategy across the Solid Tumor pipeline.
This individual will lead the design and execution of integrated learning plans spanning patients, healthcare professionals, payers, and other key stakeholders. Research will support asset transition, disease-state understanding, target product profile development, opportunity assessment, positioning, customer strategy, and launch readiness. The individual must demonstrate exceptional leadership, communicate insights clearly and concisely, collaborate across teams, influence without authority, and encourage thoughtful risk-taking. They will be personally accountable for making Johnson & Johnson Credo-based decisions and fostering a Credo-based culture.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Market Research lead for Erda iDRS and other Solid Tumor pipeline, building and managing insight plans that inform asset strategy, investment decisions, and launch preparation.
- Establish the market research foundation for Erda iDRS, with this asset representing the primary focus of the role at the outset.
- Develop scalable learning plans for priority pipeline programs, activating research as each asset approaches the 18-month launch-readiness horizon.
- Partner with New Product Business Development and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure effective transition of assets into commercial planning.
- Up to 10% of the role will support in-line market research needs.
- Lead primary research across healthcare professionals, patients, and payers, including disease-state exploration, treatment-pathway assessment, opportunity evaluation, positioning, message development, and launch tracking.
- Integrate market research with analytics, competitive intelligence, forecasting, and other evidence sources to generate clear, actionable recommendations.
- Demonstrate leadership courage in setting priorities and directing resources toward the highest-value pipeline and launch-readiness decisions.
- Ensure timely tracking and management of the market research operating budget against agreed priorities.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Education
- BA/BS Required; Advanced Degree Desirable
Experience & Skills
Required
- At least 7 years of relevant business experience in market research, business intelligence, marketing, sales, business analytics, strategic planning, or management consulting.
- Knowledge and experience across a broad spectrum of market research (qualitative and quantitative) approaches with the ability to identify appropriate approaches to address key business questions
- Proven success partnering across business teams to integrate research insights and relevant analytics/data and then translate into actionable recommendations.
- Fluency in storytelling and developing effective presentations through compelling visualizations of research findings and insights with comprehensive and impactful recommendations and solutions that drive key decisions
- Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and integrity to define key business questions with a focused approach to solving through market research plans
- High degree of comfort navigating ambiguity and striking the right balance between research rigor and speed to decision making
Preferred
- Experience supporting oncology pipeline assets, early commercialization strategy, or launch-readiness planning
- Experience working on or directly with pharmaceutical brand marketing/sales teams
- Relevant therapeutic area experience: Bladder / Prostate Oncology is preferred.
- Proven track record of mentorship / coaching of team members to enable development of market research skills
- Application of AI into market research approaches, insight generation and efficiencies
- Demonstrated commitment to learning emerging technologies, such as AI, through exploration, iteration, and applying new tools over time
