Job Description:

The Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) department is the backbone of our critical infrastructure, leading all aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of buildings, HVAC systems, utilities, and installations across our sites in Belgium. From centralized production and distribution systems to chemical and pharmaceutical production and R&D facilities.

J&J IM is recruiting for a Manager Process Engineering reporting to the Director FM Belgium and to be based in Geel, Belgium.

Key responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

Act as senior technical authority for process, maintenance, and asset-related topics. Provide guidance and challenge on complex technical decisions, designs, and risk assessments. Ensure engineering solutions and balance safety, compliance, reliability, sustainability, and cost effectiveness. Review and endorse technical studies, designs, and deliverables from internal teams and external consultants.

People Leadership & Engineering Governance

Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers. Set clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations aligned with site and E&PS strategies. Ensure consistent ways of working, decision-making, and prioritization across the team, while fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Project & Change Support

Provide senior engineering support to large and complex projects in utilities, facilities, infrastructure, and site services. Review and challenge scope definitions, design choices, and commissioning strategies, and prepare or review business cases and technical justifications for investment decisions, ensuring alignment with engineering principles and lifecycle objectives.

Work with External Consultants

Leverage consultants specialized knowledge to ensure comprehensive and high-quality process scoping and feasibility assessments.

Compliance, Risk & Continuous Improvement

Ensure adherence to applicable legislation, J&J standards, internal procedures, and GxP requirements for systems and installations. Act as an authority in audits, inspections, risk analyses, and technical reviews. Proactively identify and drive improvement opportunities related to safety, reliability, sustainability, and operational performance, promoting standardization, knowledge sharing, and best practices within E&PS Belgium and beyond.

Energy Monitoring & Optimization

Responsible for developing energy monitoring strategies and rolling-out systems for the Geel site. Track consumption and performance of major installations and prepare annual cost allocation reports.

Asset Reliability & Maintenance Strategy

Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of maintenance and asset strategies. Support root cause analyses, critical asset reviews, and long-term lifecycle optimization, ensuring alignment between engineering, maintenance execution, and operational needs.

Stakeholder Management & Advisory Role

Act as a key interface towards Project Delivery, procurement, and senior leadership. Translate complex technical topics into clear, actionable recommendations to support informed decision-making. Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder networks to enable effective collaboration and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, chemical, energy or equivalent).

  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or asset management within a regulated industrial environment.

  • Proven experience in leading engineers or acting as senior technical lead.

  • Technical–scientific and cGxP expertise in facilities and infrastructure within a regulated environment, including energy and utilities, water systems, HVAC, and applicable compliance and legislation (e.g. pressure equipment, VLAREM).

  • Broad multidisciplinary expertise across process engineering, maintenance and asset reliability, utilities, automation, energy systems, and environmental technologies, with solid grounding in core engineering disciplines (mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, thermodynamics, heat and cold technology).

  • Financial knowledge, such as an in-depth understanding of cost-benefit and life cycle cost analyses

  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills in complex technical environments.

  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€79 800,00 - €137 770,00

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
