Role Purpose
The Medical Affairs Lead, Surgery MSM, is responsible for shaping and executing the medical and clinical strategy for the Surgery MSM portfolio. This role serves on the MSM Surgery Board and acts as a strategic partner to the MSM Surgery Lead and Market General Manager. It provides scientific, clinical, and ethical leadership, working closely with business leaders and external stakeholders to support informed decision-making, evidence-based value propositions, and sustainable competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities – Strategic Positioning
- Sharpen the Surgery MSM device narrative using robust clinical evidence, including case studies, real-world evidence, and local country recommendations.
- Provide added clinical support during key procurement processes, major tenders, and interactions with insurance companies or pharmacists.
- Collaborate closely with the MSM Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) team to translate scientific evidence into clinical and access value propositions.
- Develop frameworks for evidence generation to establish competitive advantage.
- Strategic collaboration with Surgery Professional Education to develop meaningful, high-impact healthcare learning solutions.
- Support safe and effective deployment of new technologies.
Key Responsibilities – Execution
- Lead product complaint management from a medical and clinical perspective.
- Lead shaping activities such as consensus meetings.
- Manage Surgery MSM advisory board activities.
- Build and mentor future Key Opinion Leaders in strategic specialties.
- Provide medical leadership and presence during important New Product Introduction (NPI) trials and initial clinical use.
- Lead collaborations with external medical societies and partner companies in key strategic procedures.
Key Responsibilities – Strategic Optimization
- Define and articulate the Surgery MSM clinical strategy and advocate priority clinical projects at global level.
- Initiate and drive cross-country strategic clinical programs aligned with business strategy.
- Support commercial education teams by reinforcing evidence-based selling approaches.
- Ensure pragmatic and timely responses to Medical Information Requests (MIRs).
Stakeholder & Matrix Collaboration
- Act as a strategic partner to business leaders, providing medical insights into strategy, launches, lifecycle management, and customer engagement.
- Build strong external relationships with key stakeholders including KOLs, hospital groups, medical societies, regulatory agencies, and strategic accounts.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with partners across Marketing, Market Access, HEMA, Professional Education, Sales Education, Communications, Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance, as well as with Key Opinion Leaders, hospital group medical directors, regulatory agencies, and medical societies.
Governance & Medical Oversight
- Ensure that clinical and scientific evidence supporting Surgery MSM products is appropriate and sufficient for regulatory, reimbursement, access, and post-marketing support.
- Act as reviewer and approver of medical, scientific, promotional, and educational materials in line with internal governance.
- Anticipate healthcare trends, standards of care, and unmet medical needs.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- MD or equivalent medical degree required.
- Advanced degrees such as PhD or MBA are strongly valued.
- 5–10 years of experience across clinical practice, research, medical affairs, clinical development, or R&D in a regulated medical device or pharmaceutical environment.
- Expertise within a surgical specialty or medical device industry.

€97,500.00 - €155,365.00The anticipated pay ranges for additional locations are:
[Belgium] – The anticipated base pay range for this position is EUR 97,500.00 – EUR 167,785.00.[Sweden] – The anticipated base pay range for this position is SEK 900,000.00 – SEK 1,475,450.00.
