Purpose:
The MedTech Supply Chain Digital organization is seeking a Lead Data Scientist with strong hands-on expertise in Generative AI, LLMs, agentic AI systems, classical machine learning, computer vision, and end-to-end ML solution delivery. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade AI solutions that drive measurable business impact across J&J MedTech.

You will be responsible for:
As a Lead Data Scientist with a strong foundation in data science and expertise in Agentic AI, classical machine learning, and computer vision, you will collaborate across teams to shape a cohesive digital product and technology strategy that enables product-led transformation and a scalable, reusable, modular, and cost-effective digital ecosystem.
In addition, you will:
Lead end-to-end AI/ML and GenAI projects, from business problem framing and requirements gathering through data preparation, model development, solution architecture, production deployment, and post-production monitoring and optimization
Architect and deliver comprehensive ML-based solutions for highly complex, cross-functional projects that address diverse challenges and opportunities across J&J's business segments
Design, build, and deploy agentic AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration, tool-use frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and autonomous decision-making workflows
Conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) and rapidly prototype ML/GenAI-based digital products aligned with business priorities across various segments and functions, translating POCs into production-grade solutions
Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and business partners to define product vision, develop technical roadmaps, and ensure AI solutions deliver measurable business value
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data scientists and ML engineers; conduct code reviews, model reviews, and establish best practices for the team
Author and review technical proposals, design documents, and reports; contribute to internal knowledge sharing and external thought leadership in AI/ML
Stay at the forefront of the AI/ML landscape, continuously evaluate emerging technologies (foundation models, agentic frameworks, multi-modal AI) and drive their adoption to evolve the broader Data Science team's capabilities
Establish and enforce standards for model governance, responsible AI practices, reproducibility, and documentation across the project lifecycle
Requirements / Qualifications:
Required Skills:
PhD with 1+ years or MS with 3+ years of proven hands-on experience in data science, building and deploying large-scale ML models and systems in cloud environments (Azure preferred)
Demonstrated expertise in LLMs, Generative AI, and agentic AI including hands on experience with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration tools
Proven track record of deploying AI/ML solutions to production including model serving, API development, scalability considerations, and monitoring
Strong programming skills in Python; proficiency with ML libraries (such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, etc.) and data processing tools (Spark, SQL, Pandas)
Depth and breadth in state-of-the-art agentic AI technologies, multi-agent systems, tool use, planning and reasoning architectures, memory management, and human-in-the-loop patterns
Experience with prompt engineering, LLM fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, embedding strategies, and evaluation frameworks for generative AI solutions
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders; highly developed negotiating and influencing skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with MLOps and DevOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, experiment tracking (MLflow, Weights & Biases), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code
Experience with Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure Machine Learning, Cognitive Services, and related cloud-native AI tooling
Familiarity with responsible AI frameworks, fairness, explainability, bias detection, and model governance at enterprise scale
Experience in multi-functional projects and partnering directly with business stakeholders to drive adoption and change management
Domain experience in Demand/Supply Planning, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain concepts and their data ecosystems
Experience with real-time/streaming AI systems or event-driven architectures
Publications or patents in AI/ML-related fields are a plus

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $109,000 to $174,800 USD.Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
