Job Description:

The Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) department is the backbone of our critical infrastructure, leading all aspects of the design, operation, and maintenance of buildings, HVAC systems, utilities, and installations across our sites in Belgium. From centralized production and distribution systems to chemical and pharmaceutical production and R&D facilities.

Within E&PS Belgium, we are looking for a Technical Safety Engineer who will work for our site in Geel.

Key Responsibilities:

The focus is to ensure technical safety of the infrastructure by:

  • Being actively involved in the development of uniform and consistent work processes for risk management within E&PS Belgium, and the translation into procedures, standards, and tools, including:
    • Risk assessment and risk mitigation (HAZOP, SWIFT, PLANOP loss of containment analysis, LOPA evaluation, FMECA, …)
    • Functional safety (SIL, SRS, SATF, ...)
    • Calculation of emergency relief systems (PSV, rupture disk)
    • Explosion safety (EPD, ATEX IA, …)
  • Implementing programs to improve the safety and legal compliance of technical installations in close cooperation with multiple departments: EHS, engineering, production, and other campus functions.
  • Managing compliance with existing and new legislation (Seveso SIT tools, internal EHS standards, …): Identify and scope opportunities for improvement and follow-through on realization.
  • Leading and managing a multidisciplinary external team and working together with other departments making sure all technical safety standards are correctly applied in projects.
  • Acting as a process owner for several technical safety processes like functional safety, safety device calculations, ATEX and Explosion Protection Document (EPD), machine safety, and process safety calculations.
  • Supporting the Base Business Capital Planning process.
  • Being an E&PS spokesperson for internal and external regulatory safety audits.
  • Being part of the process safety management core team.

Qualifications:

  • A Master level engineering degree or equivalent through experience (mechanical, electrical, industrial, bio, safety).
  • Proven experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry, in an operational role (maintenance, engineering, process engineering, prevention…)
  • A broad knowledge of facilities management, energy, and utilities; (GXP), water systems and HVAC, compliance requirements.
  • Strong skills in communication and a result driven personality.
  • Comfortably working in a pressurized environment on a project basis as well as independently in the context of bold timelines.
  • Effective communication skills in written and spoken Dutch and English.
  • Safety degrees or certifications as an additional asset (HAZOP facilitator, Functional Safety, relevant TÜV certifications…)
  • Knowledge of risk management processes in the areas of process safety, explosion safety, functional safety, machine safety (HAZOP, SWIFT, FMECA, RCM (II) …)

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€72 500,00 - €115 230,00

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
