Purpose: Medical Affairs Manager is the BU’s scientific expert in Italy and contributes to the development and implementation of local/EMEA medical strategy in alignment with BU priorities. Through evidence-based discussions and scientific peer-to-peer interactions with HCPs, HCOs, academic societies and patient associations, Medical Manager is to be considered the trusted medical partner of external and internal stakeholders regarding the medical value of Wound Closure and Biosurgery portfolio for patients, HCPs and communities. This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure scientific integrity, clinical evidence generation, and compliant medical engagement with healthcare professionals. The position offers the opportunity to influence clinical strategy, support innovation, and shape the medical voice of Surgery in the Italian market.


Responsibilities:


  • In alignment with senior leadership, implement BU medical strategy through local field tactics and ensure successful execution in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as J&J local primary resource for medical and scientific information to HCPs, HCOs and other external stakeholders regarding BU therapeutic areas with a specific focus on Wound closure and Healing & Biosurgery
  • Establish and nurture optimal peer-to-peer medical and scientific relationships with local/national HCPs and KOLs. Meet regularly with HCPs to assess their scientific needs, and identify ways to improve and facilitate access to our portfolio
  • Develop strategic partnerships with both scientific stakeholders (HCPs, KOLs, HCOs, academic societies, faculties) and other stakeholders.
  • Conceive and lead advisory boards and expert meetings when needed.
  • Support the identification and development of KOLs across BU/Surgery therapeutic areas as needed.
  • Provide strong medical support, via evidence-based exchanges and peer-to-peer advocacy, for optimal launch and development of BU new products and solutions.
  • Support J&J-sponsored evidence generation projects
  • Support external evidence generation projects in close collaboration with global/regional Scientific Affairs (Medical, Clinical, HEMA).
  • Support the development of local clinical research and educational projects.
  • Provide HCPs with impartial scientific information and published evidence which accurately reflect risk benefit balance and support the appropriate use of BU products and services.
  • Review and approve medical materials to ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Support local teams in the management of individual HCP issues, e.g. helping them understand clinical research constraints, J&J processes and compliance requirements.
  • Bring to J&J key insights from HCPs and external research environment.
  • Support Professional Education teams to implement higher-value educational partnerships.
  • Support General Management to impartially assess & manage charitable contribution requests.
  • Support EMEA Medical Safety & Quality teams to respond appropriately to unsolicited requests for information (MIR) from HCPs and with safety investigations in French. Assist Medical Safety & Quality team by reaching out to HCPs when additional information is needed.
  • Continuous update on latest scientific and clinical advances in BU therapeutic areas and related topics.
  • Hence identify evolving trends in healthcare innovation, therapeutic strategy, patient pathway, unmet needs and evidence in BU therapeutic areas.

Requirements:


  • MD degree and Specialty degree (preferred in surgical area)
  • 2-4 years of experience in Medical Affairs, Clinical Affairs, or a related scientific role within medical devices or pharmaceuticals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical research, evidence generation, and medical compliance standards.
  • Experience engaging with healthcare professionals and key opinion leaders in a scientific, non‑promotional manner.
  • Strong analytical, public communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional, matrixed environments.
  • Solid understanding of local (Italian) healthcare systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Preferred Experience in Surgery
  • Preferred Prior involvement in clinical trial management or post‑market clinical follow‑up.
  • Experience supporting product launches or lifecycle management from a medical affairs perspective.
  • Preferred Familiarity with European medical device regulations and clinical evaluation requirements.
  • Preferred Leadership experience in speaking and teaching clinical specialist colleagues (Commercial education).
  • Languages: Fluency in Italian and English (written and spoken) is required.
  • Travel: Up to ~60% domestic travel within Italy; limited international travel as needed.
  • Certifications: Relevant clinical or research certifications are a plus.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required for field engagement.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€65,000.00 - €106,950.00

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
