Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson is currently recruiting for a Director, Global Therapeutic Area Operations within Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs (CPA). This is a hybrid role that can sit in our Spring House, PA; Horsham, PA; Titusville, NJ; Raritan, NJ or New Brunswick, NJ office locations.
The Director, Global Therapeutic Area Operations is the strategic connector across the global Therapeutic Area CPA teams (Oncology, Immunology, Neuroscience/Cardio/EPG), local markets and regions, as well as with the global HUB, ensuring the operational strategy is implemented and consistent across the Therapeutic Areas. This highly visible role is a trusted advisor and orchestrator who helps translate the IM CPA operating model into practical and repeatable ways of working that accelerate execution, strengthen alignment and reduce duplication.
Partnering closely with Therapeutic Area Vice Presidents and their leadership teams, this Director helps shape how teams connect, learn and deliver together—building shared capabilities and ways of working that enable teams to anticipate future needs, own outcomes and continuously evolve. The Director will also serve as a catalyst for excellence, scaling best practices across Therapeutic Areas and helping raise the quality, consistency and impact of CPA outputs.

Key Responsibilities

Enabling Connection and Excellence Across Therapeutic Areas
• Partner with Therapeutic Area Vice Presidents and senior leaders to develop Communities of Practice as engines for shared learning, collaboration and excellence, connecting expertise across teams and translating insights into stronger strategies and execution.
• Enable one consistent approach to key launches, growth brands, disease areas and business-critical moments, identifying ways to share insights and elevate the quality and impact of CPA work.
• Partner with Therapeutic Area Vice Presidents to define common standards and quality benchmarks for core CPA deliverables, such as launch plans, message frameworks, issues preparedness and business planning.
• Create visibility into shared priorities and opportunities for cross-TA collaboration, focusing expertise and resources where they can deliver the greatest business impact.
• Capture and scale best practices across Therapeutic Areas, turning what works in one team into repeatable models and helping teams access, apply and contribute to shared knowledge assets.
• Identify barriers to connection and knowledge sharing, and partner with leaders to build solutions that prepare teams for future needs.

Connecting Shared Expertise and Building Future-Ready Capabilities
• Partner closely with the global HUB to ensure the global Therapeutic Area teams effectively leverage shared expertise in digital/social, media and issues, measurement, executive/internal communications, portfolio communications, Public Affairs and other centralized capabilities.
• Work with Knowledge Management partners to deliver centralized tools, playbooks, templates, approved messaging and AI-ready resources.
• Simplify workflows and connect expertise so teams can focus more time on strategic, high-impact work.
• Help teams apply agreed principles for internal communications, external engagements, smaller-market support, agency use and self-service resources.

Strategy Execution, Governance and Impact Measurement
• Lead implementation of consistent, practical governance, tools and processes across global Therapeutic Area CPA teams, focusing on action plans aligned with global CPA and business requirements.
• Coordinate business planning cycles, prioritization, performance tracking and the annual operating calendar across Therapeutic Area CPA teams, in partnership with Therapeutic Area leaders and the global HUB.
• Lead coordinated impact measurement and reporting across Therapeutic Areas, including KPI setting and tracking and weekly and quarterly activity.
• Consolidate regional and market CPA insights to inform Therapeutic Area priorities and contribute strategic and operational counsel to global Results & Operations initiatives and decision-making.

Leadership Effectiveness and Team Engagement
• Provide strategic and operational support to Therapeutic Area Vice Presidents, enabling leadership focus, decision-making and preparedness; coordinate leadership team routines, agendas, meeting facilitation and action tracking.
• Coordinate talent and capability-building priorities with HR and the global HUB, with a focus on CommTech, AI, measurement, and ways of working.
• Enable Therapeutic Area CPA engagement through offsites, workshops, team updates and listening; facilitate Credo action planning and culture-building in partnership with leaders.
Operational Excellence and Resource Stewardship
• Manage budget planning, tracking and financial reporting across global Therapeutic Area CPA teams in partnership with Finance and Therapeutic Area leaders.
• Lead external vendor governance and optimization across Therapeutic Area CPA teams, ensuring alignment with business priorities, budgets and global CPA, GCA and Procurement guidance.

Key Leadership Behaviors
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
• Operate as a senior, enterprise-minded integrator across complex, matrixed teams.
• Influence without direct authority and build alignment among leaders with different priorities, geographies and areas of expertise.
• Translate strategy into connected ways of working that strengthen capabilities and elevate execution.
• Connect business priorities to communications and public affairs strategy.
• Drive simplicity, clarity and consistency while allowing for appropriate local adaptation.
• Build trust quickly with senior leaders and cross-functional partners.
• Use candor, sound judgment and positive intent to help teams navigate change.
• Model ways of working: Own the Outcome, Act as ONE Team, Know the Business, Drive the Business, Learn & Evolve, and Simplify to Amplify.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred in Communications, Public Affairs, Business, Organizational Effectiveness, Change Management, Healthcare, Public Policy or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in communications, public affairs, organizational effectiveness, change management, business operations, capability building or related disciplines.

• Strong understanding of communications and public affairs strategy, including the role of communications in driving business, reputation, access, policy and stakeholder outcomes.
• Proven ability to translate transformation priorities into practical plans and measurable outcomes.
• Experience partnering with senior leaders to align priorities, clarify roles and responsibilities, and improve organizational effectiveness.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaboration across global, regional and local teams.

• Experience working across Therapeutic Area, commercial, market access, medical affairs, policy, public affairs or corporate affairs teams preferred.
• Familiarity with knowledge management, AI-enabled workflows, digital collaboration tools, centralized content systems or self-service models preferred.
• Experience strengthening priority-market collaboration or scaling shared capabilities preferred.
