We are searching for the best talent for Head of Proteins Development Digital, Operations and Strategy role in Malvern PA or Spring House PA.
Purpose: The Senior Director, Head of Proteins Development Digital, Operations and Strategy (DOS) is a leadership role within Proteins Development, accountable for shaping and executing the function’s Digital Transformation, Operations and Strategy agenda. The role partners closely with the VP, Global Head of Proteins Development and the Proteins Development Leadership Team to translate scientific and business priorities into clear plans, disciplined execution and measurable outcomes.
This position operates within a broader Digital Operations and Strategy community across Therapeutics Development & Supply (TDS), maintaining primary accountability for delivery within Proteins Development while participating in a broader DOS leadership community to enable alignment, consistency and scale across TDS.
The role has a solid‑line reporting relationship into Proteins Development and a dotted‑line reporting relationship to the TDS Digital, Operations and Strategy lead.
The scope of this role spans an organization of approximately 1000 employees working across multiple regions (North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific).
You will be responsible for:
Strategic Planning, Business Analytics, and Budget Oversight
The role owns the end‑to‑end strategic planning and annual business cycle for Proteins Development, ensuring the function’s priorities are clear, executable, and aligned with broader TDS direction. This individual will collaborate with Finance and Proteins sub‑function Strategy and Operations colleagues.
Shaping and maintaining Proteins Development strategy in partnership with the Proteins Development Leadership Team
Translating scientific and business priorities into actionable strategies, goals, and operating plans.
Managing function‑level financial management including planning, reporting, forecasting and variance analysis across Operating and Capital expenses
Utilizing business analytics and insights to support decision making
Enabling adoption of new planning and operational approaches and driving value realization
Lead change management initiatives and support successful adoption of new financial and operational capabilities within the organization
Lead future planning, inclusive of capital, innovation, facility design, renovations and upgrades
Core Operations and Business Execution
This role is accountable for driving strong operational discipline and consistency across Proteins Development, ensuring the organization operates efficiently and at scale while remaining responsive to evolving needs.
Implementing common business and operational processes across Proteins Development
Supporting leadership planning forums, governance cadence, and execution reviews
Driving transparency, alignment, and continuous improvement across labs, sites, and subfunctions
Enabling coordination across the organization as strategies and priorities evolve
Digital Transformation for Proteins Development
This role is accountable for driving digital transformation progress and tangible impact within Proteins Development, embedding digital capabilities into scientific and operational ways of working
Shaping and delivering the Proteins Development digital roadmap
Driving adoption and measurable value from digital tools, systems, and data
Partnering with Proteins subfunctions to advance domain‑specific initiatives and productivity improvements
Contributing to TDS wide transformation initiatives
Ensuring consistency with shared TDS digital platforms, standards, and ways of working
Translating digital capabilities into improved productivity, “Best Product and Process at Launch”, and efficient and reliable clinical manufacturing
Leadership and Culture
The Senior Director serves as a visible and effective leader within Proteins Development, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The role will serve as a visible and effective change agent for global initiatives and will seek to provide clear decision making for all areas of responsibility while nurturing the ideas of others. The role leads a global team through direct and matrixed relationships providing mentorship, and career development opportunities for team members.
The Senior Director will have a desire for learning and innovation and continue career development through participation in scientific & operational meetings, and increase visibility for self, Proteins Development, Therapeutics Development and Supply, and J&J through participation in external organizations focused on operational best practices.

Qualifications / Requirements:
A scientific degree (Master’s/PhD) paired with 10+ years of industry experience that bridges science with strong business acumen
10 years of experience in both laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&D
Knowledge of CMC sciences and business
Extensive hands on experience with digital transformation
Proven leader of complex initiatives
Demonstrated success at developing highly collaborative and effective relationships in complex, highly matrixed organization
Ability to present and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across various levels in the organization
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead the execution of strategy and business transformation and initiatives
Experience in assessing technology, external environment & R&D process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies
Demonstrated experience with Program, Project and Financial Management
Ability to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plans
Track record of successful change management
Other:
This role may require ~15% domestic and international travel as needed
Requires the ability to work on-site a minimum of three days per week, with the option for up to two remote days, in alignment with our flexible work policy
