SECTION 1: JOB SUMMARY

Makes key day-to-day contributions as a support individual team member who analyzes and executes tasks that are typically routine. Provides inter-departmental support on an ad-hoc basis to support the Production Equipment Repair & Maintenance goals and objectives. Follows and applies routine administrative processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality of deliverables. Complies with high standards of professionalism, efficiency, personal communication, discretion, and independent judgment. Responsible for supporting manufacturing processes by using basic-electro polishing and metal finishing theories to properly diagnose problems and implement corrective actions. Implement all aspects of process improvement, equipment setup, testing, documentation, problem correction and repair of equipment in a time. Operates and maintains facilities equipment including, but not limited to, building controls, fire protection systems and heating-ventilation-and air-conditioning (HVAC). Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment. Plans, coordinates, inspects, and performs maintenance and supports project management for facility related projects, including but not limited to, building remodeling and construction, equipment installation and/or placement, safety and environmental compliance, mechanical systems maintenance, and energy conservation.

SECTION 2: DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

  • Complies with managerial requirements for core tasks for the support function of the Production Equipment Repair & Maintenance unit, and follows routine administrative processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality of deliverables.

  • Organizes collective data relative to the technical implementation, modification and ongoing monitoring of the quality, safety and efficiency of discrete production of unit-based items assembled from component parts.

  • Compiles strategic data to communicate with Manufacturing Engineers to develop Repair and Maintenance schematics for the rollout of new and improved repair and maintenance processes, tools and equipment.

  • Helps develop operational control standards and testing equipment to assess conformance with engineering specifications, including test apparatus of raw materials, parts, components, finished items and packaging.

  • Helps identify and escalates technical production line problems to minimize finished item rejection levels, monitoring gauges and other indicators of production equipment and machinery performance.

  • Demonstrates Johnson & Johnson’s Leadership Imperatives and Credo.

  • Directs and performs mechanical and preventive maintenance and major repairs on all facilities equipment.

  • Troubleshoots complex mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Coordinates inspections and tests of machinery and equipment to detect malfunctions. Oversees the dismantling of defective machines and equipment and the installation of new or repaired parts.

  • Ensures proper utilization of computerized maintenance management system for work orders and preventive maintenance entries and closures.

  • Coordinates and insures maintenance logs, part requisitions, preventive maintenance inspection records and other required maintenance documentation.

  • Trains lower-level technicians on safe work habits in handling of equipment, tools, chemicals and use of protective equipment. Drives all safety, environmental, and energy management systems. Leads and oversees the work of other mechanics.

  • Lays out and installs pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.

  • Sets up and supervises the operation of machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.

  • Schedules and coordinates removal, repair, and installation of walls, cable and service outlets, plastering, painting, and other complex building projects.

  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures. Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

  • Use basic electro-polishing and metal finishing theories, finishing equipment and accessories in order to properly diagnose problems and implement corrective actions as they relate to the finishing department.

  • Setup and maintain annealing and heat treatment equipment.

  • Operate all portable power tools and hand tools, drills, wrenches, grinders and meters to trouble shoot and repair production equipment.

  • Use basic metal working principles in order to properly diagnose problems and implement corrective actions.

  • Work with limited direction to effectively diagnose problems and repair the equipment in a timely manner.

  • Manage deadlines in completing breakdown, maintenance, and project activities.

  • Make critical decisions under pressure on breakdowns while practicing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)

  • Participate in and work with a production team environment. Receive direction from team members as well as production/engineering supervisor/facilitator.

  • Proficient in the use of PLC's and electrical controls to trouble shoot and maintain production equipment.

  • Support engineering groups in implementation, tracking, and closing of ECN (Equipment Change Notice) documentation.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams to identify process equipment requirements for new or existing systems.

  • Active participation in plant OEE/OSE (Overall Equipment/System Effectiveness) initiative within Maintenance Excellence Program.

  • Use and maintain Ethicon's inspection and measurement devices as needed to perform setups and maintain production equipment.

  • Read and work from detailed electrical diagrams and pipe layout diagrams.

  • Ability to set up polishing, finishing and other departmental related equipment including resistance and flame annealing equipment to specification and to make recommendations on changeover reduction initiatives.

  • Ability to run production finishing department equipment as directed by maintenance technician to produce surgical needles f various sizes and types to exacting quality standards and close tolerances of+/- .0001".

  • Set up precision equipment to specification.

  • Make recommendations on changeover reduction initiatives.

  • Support facilitator in providing direction and training to other technicians on specific systems and maintenance procedures.

  • Provide machine specific training to manufacturing associates on machine operating and setup functions.

  • Support engineering groups in the development of written procedures for equipment planned maintenance.

  • Participate with engineering to assist in design changes as needed.

  • Make appropriate decisions, based on production priorities, as to the criticality of equipment during breakdowns, with the initiative to repair as needed for the process. Support engineering groups in conducting equipment qualifications per written protocol to include mechanical and software systems.

  • Take a leadership role within the finishing technician group to improve overall department performance.

  • Ability to consistently manage a variety of tasks, and lead technical/manufacturing resources, while under pressure of the process.

  • Investigate, diagnose, and coordinate repair of process equipment electrical and control system failures.

  • Ability to use machine shop equipment to fabricate or modify machine components in a breakdown situation.

  • Utilize PE (Process Excellence) tools in identifying root cause and corrective actions while conforming to specifications and safety requirements to eliminate repetitive failures.

  • Ability to work independently towards a general result, with creative new methods.

  • Ability to complete duties that include basic welding.

  • Support engineering groups in the development of written procedures for the operation, testing, and validation of equipment control systems.

  • Work in team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner.

  • Comply with all federally regulated programs.

  • Adhere to J&J environmental and safety policies and guidelines.

  • Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.

  • Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions.

  • Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc) where applicable.

  • Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)

  • Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable

  • Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.

  • Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.

  • Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures (e.g. manual and/or electronic documentation.

  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Consistently meet required Training due date targets.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on all production equipment in area assigned, keeping neat and correct records.

  • Own equipment related utilization metrics for process assignment.

  • Determine necessary tools and material requirements for specific assignments.

  • Identify and recommend electrical and mechanical devices and components for equipment spare parts inventories.

  • Take responsibility to ensure spare parts are available to maintain equipment in proper running condition.

  • Perform work in a safe manner, as well as, keeping equipment clean and in safe working condition.

  • Support Plant Diversity Process.

  • Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department.

  • Utilize CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) system for data retrieval and equipment monitoring.

  • Support manufacturing in the day-to-day troubleshooting situations and actively participates on Integrated Production Team's (IPT) to maximize production equipment uptime.

  • Interface with appropriate manufacturing representatives to ensure manufacturing operations and projects receive effective technical support.

  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level

· Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.

· For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable

· Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures

· Performs other duties assigned as needed

SECTION 3: EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Generally, Requires 4-6 Years Work Experience

  • Minimum of two years electrical, electronic, mechanical technical school, or electro polishing technology equivalent formal training, or military training/experience or equivalent OJT (On Job Training) consistent with experience listed below.

SECTION 4: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES and AFFILIATIONS

  • Computer and database management skills.

  • Proficient in PLC's and Electrical Controls.

  • Able to read blueprints and electrical schematics.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills.

  • Statistical and analytical problem solving.

  • Prefer knowledge of lean manufacturing and manufacturing processes such as KANSAN and Pull Systems.

  • Basic knowledge of pipe fitting, welding and machining.

  • Organizational skills to balance workload and priorities.

  • Writing and oral communication skills.

  • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude skills.

  • Self-motivated and capable taking a lead position in completing duties.

  • Self-directed and capable of determining needed resources in completing tasks with little or no supervision.
