Cilag AG in Schaffhausen belongs to the group of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine and manufactures high quality pharmaceutical products, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and medical devices. Today Cilag AG is one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in Switzerland supplying all the major global markets. The Schaffhausen facility is a strategic launch and growth site for parenteral products, and we have an impressive pipeline of new and innovative products.

The GET (Global Engineering Technology) organization operates as one integrated team in the delivery of Engineering, Maintenance and Automation activities. This occurs in a standard, coordinated and consistent manner in support of the current and future requirements of our Manufacturing & Technical Organization (MTO) and in conjunction with key partners, to create one integrated internal/external network.

Purpose / Role Summary

  • Lead, build and operationalize a site-wide reliability engineering function across four critical areas (Parenterals, Optical Inspection / Device Assembly Packaging, Utilities, Synthetics).
  • Own the reliability strategy, governance, standards and key performance metrics for the site. Provide technical leadership, prioritize reliability initiatives, mentor a team of 4 discipline-focused reliability engineers, and partner with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Validation, Supply Chain and EHS.
  • Establish repeatable processes for failure analysis, design-for-reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, spare parts optimization, and lifecycle risk management to improve equipment uptime, product quality and cost of ownership.

Core Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Governance
    Define the site reliability vision, objectives and roadmap aligned to business goals.Create reliability standards, policies, and governance (FMEA lifecycle, RCA, design reviews, test plans).Set KPIs and reporting cadence (MTBF, MTTR, availability, planned maintenance compliance, failure rate trends, cost of downtime).
  • Team Leadership & Structure
    Hire, onboard and develop 4 Reliability Engineers (one per department listed).Establish clear roles, responsibilities, escalation paths and dotted-line relationships with department engineering and operations managers.Coach and mentor engineers on technical methods, project management, stakeholder engagement and performance metrics.
  • Technical Program Delivery
    Lead site-level reliability projects (asset criticality assessments, RCM implementation, obsolescence mitigation, redesigns to reduce failure modes).Ensure coordinated reliability activities across departments to reduce cross-functional risk (e.g., utilities impacting production lines).Oversee and approve equipment reliability studies, life testing, accelerated aging where required.
  • Data & Tools
    Implement or optimize reliability data infrastructure: CMMS integration, failure modes register, reliability databases, dashboards and analytics (trend analysis, Weibull / life distribution modeling).Use data-driven methods for root cause analysis and prioritization (RCA, FMEA, fault-tree analysis).
  • Quality, Compliance & Risk Management
    Ensure reliability solutions meet regulatory and quality requirements (GMP expectations for Parenterals and Device Assembly).Support change control, validation activities, CAPA investigations and audit responses related to reliability issues.Drive risk mitigation for critical equipment that affects product quality, safety, or supply continuity.
  • Stakeholder Management
    Serve as primary reliability interface to Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Procurement and Supply Chain.Present roadmap, status and results to site leadership; quantify business impact (reduction in downtime, cost savings, risk reduction).
