Job Summary

Are you inspired to make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives?

CAR-T is an innovative therapy that uses the power of a patient’s own immune system, genetically modifying T-cells to target and eliminate cancer cells. This groundbreaking technology offers hope to patients where other treatments have not been successful.

To support the CAR-T program in EMEA, Janssen is building two manufacturing centers in the Ghent area (Obelisc & Tech Lane).

As a Cell Processing Engineer, you are part of the Operations workstream, working closely with Operations, Quality, and MSAT. You are accountable for the end-to-end ownership of a defined part of the manufacturing process, ensuring robustness, compliance, and performance.

You combine strong process knowledge, GMP expertise, and operational presence to identify improvement opportunities, manage risks, and support decision-making. You play a key role in process monitoring, change assessment, and continuous improvement, while ensuring inspection readiness and high-quality execution.

Through cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and on-the-floor presence, you contribute directly to the reliable operation and scaling of CAR-T manufacturing in a highly innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own a defined part of the manufacturing process, ensuring performance, robustness, and end-to-end oversight of materials, flows, and documentation
  • Act as Operational SME, supporting technical decision-making and representing Operations in process design and qualification activities
  • Identify, lead, and implement continuous improvement initiatives and proactively manage process risks (e.g. contamination, mix-ups)
  • Ensure documentation, knowledge building, and training, including SOPs, WIs, eBRs, and technical writing
  • Ensure quality and compliance, including change control assessment, root cause investigations, inspection readiness, and acting as spokesperson during audits
  • Support systems and digital integration (MES, SAP, etc.), ensuring systems enable operational efficiency and compliance
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment (QA, QC, MSAT, EHS, IT, Planning, external partners), with strong presence in daily governance and on the shop floor

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a scientific or technical field (e.g., Engineering, Bioscience, Pharmacy, Biochemistry)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, ideally in aseptic manufacturing and GMP-regulated environments
  • Strong knowledge of aseptic manufacturing, shop floor processes, and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in commissioning, qualification, validation, or CAR-T is a plus
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, communicate clearly, and influence stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with a proactive, quality- and patient-focused mindset

Our Offer

  • The opportunity to participate in a progressive treatment that gives hope to patients in need
  • The ability to help shape a new venture from the start
  • An innovative and dynamic working environment
  • On-the-job training for this specific treatment and systems
  • Opportunities to continue developing and growing within a strong and expanding organization
  • An open-ended contract with a competitive remuneration package

At Johnson & Johnson, we want every candidate to feel supported throughout the hiring process. Our goal is to make the experience clear, fair, and respectful of your time.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Application review: We’ll carefully review your CV to see how your skills and experience align with the role.
  • Getting to know you: If there’s a good match, you’ll be invited to a short call with one of our recruitment team to understand more about you and answer any questions that you might have.
  • Staying informed: We know waiting can be hard and processes can evolve; our recruitment team will keep you updated and make sure you know what to expect at each step.
  • Final steps: For successful candidates, you will need to complete country-specific checks before starting your new role. We will help guide you through these.

Finally, at the end of the process, we’ll invite you to share feedback in a short survey — your input helps us continue improving the experience for future candidates.
