Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a(n) Sustainability Manager, located in Norderstedt, Germany.

Job Overview

The Sustainability Manager plays a critical role in advancing DePuy Synthes’ sustainability and ESG priorities across commercial operations within the HEMA (Health Economics & Market Access) organization. This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams to embed sustainability into market access strategies, commercial decision‑making, and external value communication. The position offers the opportunity to drive measurable environmental and social impact while supporting responsible growth and patient access across European markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute sustainability initiatives aligned with DePuy Synthes’ commercial and HEMA strategies across assigned markets.

  • Integrate sustainability and ESG considerations into health economics, market access, and value proposition development.

  • Partner with commercial, market access, supply chain, and corporate affairs teams to support responsible product access and lifecycle sustainability.

  • Track, analyze, and report sustainability performance metrics relevant to commercial and market access activities.

  • Support preparation of sustainability‑related content for external stakeholders, including payers, partners, and public institutions.

  • Ensure alignment with Johnson & Johnson Credo values, internal policies, and applicable regulatory and ESG requirements.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation in sustainable commercial practices.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Health Economics, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.

  • Master’s degree preferred (e.g., Sustainability Management, Health Economics, MBA, or related).

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • 6–8 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, ESG, market access, health economics, or commercial roles within healthcare, life sciences, or medical devices.

  • Experience partnering with cross‑functional commercial and market access teams.

  • Strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform strategy and decision‑making.

  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks, ESG principles, and regulatory environments relevant to Europe.

  • Ability to translate complex sustainability concepts into clear, business‑relevant insights.

Preferred:

  • Experience in HEMA, payer engagement, or value communication within MedTech or pharmaceuticals.

  • Familiarity with ESG reporting standards (e.g., CSRD, GRI, SASB, or equivalent).

  • Project management experience leading multi‑stakeholder initiatives.

  • Experience working in a matrixed, international organization.

Other:

  • Languages: Fluency in English required; German preferred.

  • Travel: Up to 20% regional travel across Europe.

  • Certifications: Sustainability or ESG certifications (e.g., GRI, ESG, PMP) preferred.

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€78,300.00 - €135,700.00

Benefits:

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
