The Research & Development group of J&J Innovative Medicine discovers and develops innovative medical solutions to address important unmet medical needs in oncology, immunology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, cardiovascular and pulmonary hypertension.

The Advanced Therapies Pilot Plant (ATP) in Leiden produces clinical trial material for advanced therapies, a novel class of medical products that uses cell and gene therapies to treat diseases and have the potential to cure diseases when no treatment is available. It's a very exciting field, as no established manufacturing platforms exist for these products, which means that new processes need to be developed to ensure efficient production of high-quality GMP material!

The ATP is a very active pilot plant, with 3 full GMP productions streets for drug substance, and a 4th production street for drug product production being created, making it a true end-to-end pilot plant! The ATP teams also work in close collaboration with the process development teams to enable fast delivery of the products for clinical trials.

We are recruiting a Senior Supervisor to join the ATP operations team. We are seeking a highly motivated and independent individual who will be line manager and operations lead for establishing new scale-up capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish the new scale-up production capability, together with the project team, by assisting in the management of project plans and delivering on objectives, to ensure the ATP’s operational needs and requirements.
  • Build an operations team with the appropriate skills, capabilities and training to operate the scaled-up production capability
  • Supervises individual contributors and is accountable for conducting effective performance management and coaching more junior colleagues in techniques, processes, and responsibilities
  • Leads processes and assignments for the ATP team and supports organizational objectives and business goals, including the introduction of new products into the plant and supervising manufacturing of products.
  • Ensures in a timely manner, communication of any issues or concerns to the next management level.
  • Establishes workflow for strategic plans, like strategic work force plans or cross-contamination control strategies, and serves as a primary point of contact for the team, and internal and external partners.

Qualifications

Education:

MSc or equivalent with 5-10 years of Pharma/biotech industry experience, preferably in roles related to drug product manufacturing or microbiology and sterility assurance or similar areas.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proven experience in GMP operations, preferably with experience in a variety of different areas.
  • Experience in process development of large molecule manufacturing is a benefit.
  • Strong team building and project management skills
  • Able to build and operationalize capacity improvement plans
  • Knowledgeable about lean manufacturing tools (e.g. green belt)
  • Strong communication skills in English
