The Director, Production Planning — Vision Care will develop and lead a team of managers and planners across multiple regions and sites. This role is accountable for production planning, short- and long-term capacity management, Supply S&OP, and site planning processes, including reliability of supply, MPS attainment, schedule attainment and related performance measures. The scope includes both internal and external manufacturing in support of the Vision Care business, including Contact Lens, Myopia and CEH.

The Director will operate and govern Vision Care site planning processes, maintaining accountability for critical metrics, reports and processes. The role will also build and sustain close partnerships with customer-facing functions and the End-to-End Planning team to anticipate, sense and support customer needs.

The Director will collaborate with site leaders, Engineering, Product Management, Quality and R&D to ensure accurate inputs are maintained for capacity planning.

This leader will be responsible for developing teams and leaders, building End-to-End capabilities, improving supply chain effectiveness and driving performance through strong technical capability, coaching, leadership and external benchmarking.

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Champion the development of leadership and planning capabilities across the Supply Chain Planning organization, aligned with Credo behaviors, diversity and inclusion expectations, and leadership imperatives.
  • Govern the cyclical S&OP processes and reviews with the appropriate Management Boards. Trigger off-cycle S&OP meetings for specific events requiring an End-to-End Supply Chain review in partnership with the End-to-End Planning team.
  • Drive service and inventory performance across sites, with direct accountability for planning and product flows from suppliers to manufacturing facilities through final product delivery.
  • Develop and lead internal and external supply strategies aligned with customer and business goals, resulting in cash value improvements through End-to-End scenario planning, optimization processes and modeling.
  • Champion the supply reliability and agility journey for the sites to deliver proactive service and risk mitigation.
  • Drive consistent planning processes across sites, ensuring effective management of key projects to deliver growth objectives.
  • Develop and mentor talent, ensure a strong pipeline of leaders and maintain robust succession plans, with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as a priority.
  • Develop and govern Supply S&OP policies, standards, guidelines, technology and procedures. Maintain senior leader engagement in the S&OP process to ensure decisions are made within the process.
  • Drive business trade-off decisions across customer service, inventory and financial priorities. Project SLOB exposure and minimize SLOB expense.
  • Recommend cost improvement projects that reduce network inventory requirements and/or improve plant efficiencies.
  • Work with New Product Introduction groups to understand future requirements and help plants develop the capabilities required to support them.
  • Partner with Procurement to improve supplier performance, including quality and timely delivery, and to build strategic alliances with key suppliers. Ensure regular supplier reviews occur, covering supply plans, performance, improvement projects and seamless integration.
  • Manage collaboration with external partners and ensure effective flow of supply chain planning information between Johnson & Johnson and external partners.
  • Respond to critical issues and ensure cross-functional support to address unforeseen demand and supply challenges.
  • Drive implementation of standard methodologies in supply planning, including master scheduling, detailed scheduling and capacity planning. Utilize process excellence and Six Sigma tools to drive continuous improvement across supply chain processes.
  • Provide input into the Long-Term Capacity process and long-term supply modeling. Determine planning capability needs and implement people-development strategies that support continual improvement in business results.
  • Identify opportunities to improve supply chain effectiveness and performance.
  • Provide input to contract development to ensure appropriate contracting language that supports supply chain agility and responsiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a focus in Business, Finance, Logistics, Operations or Engineering is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience, including at least 4 years of people leadership experience.
  • MBA in a related field is a plus.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Significant understanding of best practices in supply chain, production planning and materials management.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and maintaining strategic supplier partnerships that drive alignment with Johnson & Johnson’s business goals and objectives.
  • Ability to apply advanced business case approaches and gain consensus on major decisions in support of the business case.
  • Ability to visualize the future state of the Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain organization using multiple data sources and lead problem-solving efforts across geographies through innovative approaches and conclusions.
  • Ability to develop, coach and guide a leadership team in the execution of strategies and realization of functional and company goals.
  • Ability to coach and develop accountable, diverse and global leaders who inspire and empower others.
  • Ability to foster collaboration across all levels of the enterprise and with external partners.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to make complex topics clear and compelling for all levels of the organization in both written and oral formats.
  • Ability to influence at all levels within Supply Chain, across a matrix environment and externally.
  • In-depth knowledge of ERP systems, SAP/APO/SNP or equivalent systems and processes is preferred.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in a medical device, healthcare or pharmaceutical company is preferred.
  • Green Belt Six Sigma certification and Supply Chain certification, such as APICS or IBF, are preferred.
  • Experience in Lean and process transformation.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and standards, including import/export legislation, GMP and ISO requirements, is desirable.

  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 15% domestic and international travel.
