Caring for the world, one person at a time

At Johnson & Johnson, we believe health is everything. Our strength in healthcare innovation empowers us to build a world where complex diseases are prevented, treated and cured, where treatments are smarter and less invasive, and where solutions are personal. Through our expertise in Innovative Medicine and MedTech, we are uniquely positioned to innovate across the full spectrum of healthcare solutions today to deliver the breakthroughs of tomorrow, and profoundly impact health for humanity.

Ethicon, part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech, is a global leader in patient-focused surgical innovation, including surgical stapling, advanced energy, wound closure, flowable and advanced haemostats. Our Surgery teams partner with healthcare professionals to support outcomes, improve procedural efficiency and help shape the future of surgical care.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Sales Specialist to represent the Ethicon Surgery Portfolio, with a focus on Endo Mechanical and/or Energy technologies across an assigned territory in the Republic of Ireland.

This is a customer-facing commercial role with responsibility for driving access, adoption and preference for the Ethicon Surgery Portfolio across hospital accounts. The successful candidate will work closely with account managers, commercial colleagues, marketing, professional education and wider J&J MedTech teams to deliver a coordinated approach to account development and customer partnership.

The role requires a strong blend of commercial drive, clinical curiosity, customer focus and disciplined execution. You will build trusted relationships with key stakeholders, support education and training activity, develop existing and emerging KOL relationships, and use market intelligence to identify opportunities that grow the business and strengthen J&J Surgery’s position in the market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sell the Ethicon Endo Mechanical and/or Energy portfolio within hospitals across the assigned territory, using a strategic and disciplined sales deployment approach.

  • Establish the assigned Surgery Portfolio as a preferred choice by clearly articulating the importance of surgical outcomes, product quality, clinical value and procedural relevance.

  • Develop and maintain strong account plans, including weekly and monthly sales action plans that reflect the activities required to achieve territory objectives.

  • Analyse sales reports and account performance to identify opportunities, recognise routine challenges, understand root causes and recommend practical solutions.

  • Negotiate and close sales in routine situations, while seeking appropriate guidance and support for more complex opportunities or customer negotiations.

  • Take ownership for account management, maintaining visibility of account sales and opportunities across relevant Surgery portfolios.

  • Collaborate with specialist sales resources, account managers and commercial colleagues to deliver a coordinated and professional account management approach.

  • Lead and support customer training activities, including Centres of Excellence, preceptorships, in-services and other education initiatives.

  • Partner with Professional Education Managers to develop and maintain KOL relationships and champion the effective use of J&J Surgery’s Professional Education offering.

  • Work with the Surgery Marketing team to provide product feedback, market insight and product management support as required.

  • Collaborate effectively with Business Managers, Commercial teams, Marketing and other internal stakeholders to support territory and business goals.

  • Identify and communicate timely, accurate market intelligence on key accounts, competitor activity, customer needs and emerging trends.

  • Stay current on changing healthcare dynamics and national surgical market trends, providing timely feedback to Marketing and Management so strategies can be developed and adapted accordingly.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for a confident, ambitious and highly competitive individual who is also deeply customer centric. The successful candidate will be commercially driven, clinically curious, resilient and motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in surgical care.

  • A proven track record of high achievement in medical sales, healthcare, commercial roles or another demanding performance-led environment. Medical sales experience is advantageous but not essential.

  • A high-impact individual with the interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to move the business forward in a competitive operating theatre environment.

  • Strong customer focus, with the ability to build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders across hospital accounts.

  • A solid understanding of the hospital environment, including HSE, NHS and private sector dynamics, or the ability to quickly develop this understanding.

  • Commercial drive, sound judgement and the ability to identify opportunities, prioritise activity and execute with discipline.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to confidently present complex information in a clear and compelling way.

  • A collaborative mindset, with a strong affinity for working closely with others across sales, marketing, professional education and commercial teams.

  • Entrepreneurial behaviour, resilience and the ability to adapt in a fast-moving, competitive healthcare environment.

  • Degree-level education is desirable. A Business or Science degree would be advantageous but is not essential.

What Success Looks Like

  • The Ethicon Endo Mechanical and/or Energy portfolio is positioned strongly across priority accounts in the assigned territory.

  • Account plans are clear, actionable and aligned to commercial objectives.

  • Customer relationships are strengthened through professional engagement, meaningful education and consistent follow-through.

  • Sales opportunities are identified, progressed and closed with discipline and integrity.

  • Market intelligence is shared proactively and used to inform local and national strategy.

  • Internal collaboration across Sales, Marketing, Professional Education and Commercial teams is effective and customer focused.
