Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Director, External Manufacturing, to be based in Zug, Switzerland or Geel/Beerse Belgium, Cork Ireland, Leiden Netherlands or Titusville, New Jersey.

Position Summary:

The Director will oversee a specific segment of spend for J&J Innovative Medicine (IM) Supply Chain focusing on selected suppliers within the External Manufacturing environment for Biotherapeutics and/or Synthetics platforms. This role will require effective collaboration with key stakeholders across Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, Finance, and various functional teams. We are seeking a knowledgeable leader who will help execute the J&J IM External Manufacturing strategy while supporting the overall goals for financial performance, quality, compliance, and service.

This position will lead a team of Sourcing professionals dedicated to developing and maintaining key supplier relationships. The Director will play a pivotal role in coordinating efforts to manage the selected suppliers, refresh and execute category strategy and ensure alignment with J&J IM's objectives.

The successful candidate will collaborate with the J&J IM External Manufacturing (EM) Operations Organization to manage external manufacturing supplier relationships, driving ownership of commercial interactions within this focused network. In addition, this role will involve working closely with different functions in Supply Chain and our external manufacturing network to ensure we meet capacity and innovation needs efficiently.

The Director will report directly to the Sr Director Global Category Leader EM

Responsibilities:

  • Support J&J IM's Vision: Creating a future where disease is a thing of the past.

  • Develop and execute category plans to meet short- and mid-term requirements for IM and create value for J&J including sourcing strategy, negotiations, contract implementation and performance against established targets (Cost drivers, risk analysis, mitigation, analytics, applicability / of category value creation techniques)

  • Manage supplier relationships, communicate changes to category strategy, execute joint collaborative initiatives, and monitor supplier contract negotiations.

  • Identify, develop and execute category strategies based on deep subject matter expertise and a profound understanding of industry/market dynamics.

  • Foster strong supplier relationships with key strategic partners.

  • Engage with business partners to ensure supply continuity and identify potential risks.

  • Assess stakeholder engagements to unlock value within the given category.

  • Identify solutions for business needs through supplier collaboration and innovation.

  • Champion sustainable procurement initiatives and promote supplier diversity.

  • Deliver cost-effective solutions for existing and new product lines.

  • Utilize data and analytics to inform decision-making and performance assessments.

  • Identify business demand requirements and collaborate with partners to achieve annual value improvements.

  • Ensure commitments to financial stewardship, quality, and innovation are met.

  • Proactively identify and escalate issues that may impact the Supply Chain.

  • Cultivate a high-performance culture within the team and with suppliers.

  • Lead and mentor a team, embodying strong values and effective resource allocation skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced business degree (MSc, MBA) preferred.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in both Procurement and Supply Chain.

  • Experience in multi-country, multi-sector environments preferred.

  • Proficient in core procurement skills (Spend Management: Category Management and Supplier Management) and project/change management methodologies.

  • Strong business acumen with expertise in contracting, understanding regulatory, legal, compliance and commercial elements

  • Demonstrated flexibility in adapting to external changes while ensuring smooth operations.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts.

  • Ability to seek and drive continuous improvements

  • Ability to prioritize requests, and propose effective cost/customer service alternatives

  • Judgment in developing new approaches and resolving issues

  • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., business, Finance, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"

  • Proven track record in leading cross-functional teams and executing significant influencing roles.

  • Significant business acumen and proven team building skills

  • People Management experience is required.

  • Creative and open to experimentation with a focus on innovation.

Travel Requirement:

The position may require up to 20% domestic and international travel.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00
