Immunology Internship Program Overview:


The Johnson & Johnson Immunology Internship Program offers a full-time, immersive learning experience within Immunology Therapeutic Area Research and Development. Interns contribute to meaningful projects, engage with leaders and colleagues across functions, and build practical skills through structured learning, mentorship, and exposure to the drug development process. The program is designed to foster professional growth while giving interns an opportunity to support innovative immunology research and clinical development.

Designed to cultivate the next generation of talent, the program helps interns develop scientific, technical, and professional capabilities while exploring career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. The internship spans approximately three months, from May 17 through August 6, 2027. The position is located in Spring House, PA.

Job Description


As a Clinical Scientist Intern, you will join a clinical development team within the Immunology Therapeutic Area. With guidance from an assigned mentor, you will contribute to clinical trial activities and gain exposure to the development and implementation of clinical strategies across Phase I–III immunology studies. The role offers opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across scientific, medical, operational, regulatory, and other functional disciplines in a global matrix environment.

The Clinical Scientist Intern may support cross-functional trial team activities such as protocol and study-material development, literature reviews, medical review of clinical data, clinical study report preparation, and documents supporting regulatory filings. In collaboration with the Study Responsible Scientist, Study Responsible Physician, and other team members, the intern may also help monitor or support aspects of clinical trial conduct. Each intern will complete one primary research project and may receive additional assignments based on team needs. Interns will present their work to project teams and conclude the program by presenting a poster or abstract on their primary project at the research symposium.

The internship is designed to give undergraduate and graduate students practical experience in a large pharmaceutical research and development environment and a foundational understanding of novel drug development. Interns will learn about immune-mediated diseases, including disease biology, diagnosis, treatment approaches, and the mechanisms of action of investigational medicines evaluated in clinical trials. The curriculum also includes training on applicable Standard Operating Procedures, study-specific requirements, clinical database systems, and medical data review tools.


You will be responsible for:

  • Gaining overall understanding of clinical research and drug development including but not limited to Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), International Conference of Harmony (ICH) guidelines, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Assisting with management of trial activities including patient tracking through screening process, and eligibility/enrollment reviews
  • Assisting with document processing and management within the electronic master file (i.e., vTMF)
  • Participating in department and team meetings
  • Participating in cross-functional team and clinical team meetings
  • Developing study training materials/documents
  • Shadowing key clinical and or functional roles for learning/development opportunities
  • Supporting Clinical Team with study start up activities during trial set up, and other study tasks during conduct, and close out
  • Assisting with review and cleaning of clinical data (i.e., medical review), query generation and resolution
  • Assisting with interpretation, reporting, and preparation of oral and written results of product research, in concert with senior clinical personnel, in preparation for health authority submissions
  • Reviewing medical literature, related products, and new technologies
  • Collaboration and/or assigned projects from other various functional disciplines
  • Leadership opportunities on specific program and/or group projects
  • Abstract/poster preparation and presentation at organization-wide research symposium
  • Other projects as assigned

Qualifications


  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually require future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited University or College program throughout the duration of the internship.
  • Must not be graduating before, during, or after the start or end of the internship program
  • Must be available for the entire duration of the internship program from 17 May 2026 through 06 Aug 2027
  • Undergraduate students with a minimum of four semesters at program start or graduate students are eligible
  • Graduate students must be pursuing a master’s, PharmD, Physician Assistant or PhD or other clinical related degrees
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 which is reflective of all college coursework
  • Students in good standing, working towards the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degrees
  • Currently enrolled in biology, cell/molecular biology, chemistry, pre-med, nursing program, public health, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, clinical pharmacology, clinical or translational research, computational biology, precision medicine, or similar areas of study
  • Availability to work full time (40 h/w) for the entire co-op or internship. We work on a “hybrid model” if you are NOT lab based. This means that you will be asked to report on site three times a week and can work remotely twice a week.
  • Proven leadership/participation with campus programs and/or service programs is desired
  • Detailed oriented with good organizational skills
  • Possess strong leadership skills to participate and contribute to internship program initiatives and events
  • Great interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead peers, project teams and present to project and senior leadership teams
  • Enthusiastic, collaborative, able to build relationships and work within global matrixed and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work on and balance multiple project deliverables
  • Working knowledge and/or experience using Microsoft suite of business applications/tools including but not limited to Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Sharepoint, Teams, and Word, etc.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
