Johnson & Johnson is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as an LCA analyst, J&J Innovative Medicine. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our company's environmental sustainability efforts. As a global leader in the healthcare industry, Johnson & Johnson is committed to taking responsibility for our products and packaging throughout the life cycle.
We are looking for a passionate individual who can support our Life Cycle Assessment program. You will run LCAs end‑to‑end (from data collection to interpretation), partner with teams end-to-end to turn results into decisions, and support the evolution toward a more digital, data‑driven sustainability ecosystem. This role blends hands‑on technical LCA expertise with practical project, process and data skills
This expert will report into the Senior Manager, Environmental Sustainability & LCA.
What you’ll do
- Deliver cradle‑to‑gate and full life cycle assessments for pharmaceutical products (including manufacturing processes, drug‑delivery devices, and key technologies), aligned to ISO 14040/44 and other relevant standards (e.g., ISO 14067, EU PEF, PAS 2090).
- Build, maintain and improve LCA models as products, sites and supply chains change; ensure transparency, consistency and reproducibility.
- Coordinate LCA work across portfolio: clarify scope, align collaborators, supervise progress, and collaborate with external partners and data providers.
- Work with data/digital teams to map required inputs, assess gaps vs. the target data architecture, and help define requirements for future data pipelines, integrations and automation.
- Translate LCA outputs into clear, decision‑ready insights (hotspots, improvement opportunities, trade‑offs) for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Support reporting needs, including internal summaries and materials that enable sustainability claims, regulatory submissions, customer engagement, and corporate reporting.
Why this role matters (your impact)
- Help build and scale a powerful LCA capability—methods, data and tooling—that influences real product and supply‑chain decisions.
- Work at the intersection of sustainability, science and digital, with exposure to diverse functions (R&D, Supply Chain, Procurement and Commercial).
- Develop as a sustainability technical expert while contributing to digital enablement and process improvement in a highly regulated environment.
What you bring
Education & experience
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in (bio)engineering, environmental science, sustainability, chemistry, or a related field.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience delivering LCAs (preferably in pharma, chemicals, or another regulated manufacturing environment).
- Nice to have: experience with project coordination, process analysis, data mapping, or digital transformation initiatives.
Technical skills
- Proficiency with LCA software (e.g., SimaPro, GaBi, openLCA).
- Strong analytical skills; comfortable working with intricate datasets (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Python/R are a plus).
- Solid understanding of LCA and carbon footprint standards (ISO 14040/44, ISO 14067, PEF, PAS 2090) and how to apply them in practice.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical processes and regulated environments is a plus.
Project, data & process skills
- Able to coordinate multiple workstreams, track progress, and manage timelines.
- Familiarity with data mapping, data governance, and data architecture concepts.
- Skilled at documenting processes, identifying gaps, and driving practical improvements.
- Comfortable facilitating working sessions and turning discussions into clear next steps.
- Highly organized and meticulous, with a continuous‑improvement attitude.
Ways of working
- Clear, confident communicator—able to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Works well independently and collaboratively in cross‑functional teams.
- Structured and proactive in problem‑solving; able to take care of ambiguity.
- Able to navigate a global organization with multiple priorities and collaborators.
