Position Summary
The Senior Manufacturing Supervisor – Center of Expertise (NPI) leads the New Product Introduction (NPI) team responsible for ensuring successful introduction of new biologics manufacturing processes into commercial operations. The role provides leadership to a team of NPI Specialists and the NPI Coordinator and partners closely with Operations, MSAT, Quality, Engineering, Validation, Supply Chain and Digital organizations to ensure operational readiness for future products.
This position plays a key role in translating development into routine manufacturing by building robust processes, preparing manufacturing organizations, and delivering projects safely, compliantly and on time.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the NPI team, including performance management, coaching, staffing, training, and talent development to ensure high-quality delivery and strong engagement.
- Set priorities, provide direction, and manage team workflows, approvals, compliance, absenteeism, and escalation of risks or concerns to support business results.
- Build effective cross-functional partnerships to ensure deliverables meet operational needs, customer expectations, and organizational goals.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, high-performing culture guided by Johnson & Johnson’s Credo, Leadership Imperatives, Code of Business Conduct, company policies, and applicable laws.
- Drive operational excellence by maintaining GMP and regulatory awareness, fostering LEAN practices, managing KPIs, performing Gemba walks, and improving safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule performance.
New Product Introduction Leadership
- Lead the NPI Specialists and NPI Coordinator responsible for introduction of new products and manufacturing capabilities.
- Own operational readiness activities from project initiation through PPQ and commercial launch.
- Drive planning, prioritization and execution of multiple NPI projects simultaneously.
- Ensure seamless transfer of knowledge from Development and MSAT into Manufacturing Operations.
- Build strong partnerships across Quality, MSAT, Engineering, Validation, Supply Chain and Digital organizations.
Program & Project Leadership
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver project milestones on time and within scope.
- Identify project risks early and proactively implement mitigation plans.
- Drive governance, project reporting and stakeholder communication.
- Ensure operational requirements are incorporated during process and facility design.
Manufacturing Readiness
- Ensure manufacturing procedures, training, documentation, systems and equipment are ready before execution.
- Support PPQ campaigns and transition into routine commercial manufacturing.
- Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement after implementation.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Champion innovative manufacturing solutions and digital technologies.
- Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve operational excellence.
- Foster a culture of learning, collaboration and knowledge sharing across projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or another relevant Life Sciences discipline.
- 6–8 years of experience within the biopharmaceutical or pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated experience in New Product Introduction (NPI), technology transfer, manufacturing sciences, process engineering or manufacturing operations.
- Previous people leadership or project leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of GMP regulations and biologics manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
