Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Data, Data Science & AI (DDSAI) organization, based in Spain. In this role, you will drive innovative computational biology, AI/ML model development, and integrative omics strategies to accelerate discovery, optimize therapeutics and inform clinical development for precision medicine.
Key Responsibilities
You will apply expertise in transcriptomics, computational biology, data visualization, and mechanistic interpretation to design and execute off-target assessments for siRNA experiments and deliver weight-of-evidence reports. You will lead the development of an AI-powered scalable analysis pipelines for siRNA design and off-target assessment and prediction, to optimize siRNA selection and minimize off-target effects. You will contribute to data stewardship (multiomics FAIR data practices) and modern computational capabilities that improve the efficiency, rigor, and reproducibility of AI-enabled analytical workflows. You will operate with a high degree of scientific independence and partner with cross‑disciplinary scientists to enable end-to-end strategy and execution.
In this role, you will:
- Develop, optimize, and deploy the design/prediction framework for siRNA candidate generation and transcriptome-wide off-target assessment, including multi-omics/species data integration and AI/ML model development of transcriptome‑wide off‑target assessment
- Develop automated data processing and visualization pipelines to support siRNA property analyses, including target specificity, cross-species targeting, and pharmacological properties.
- Develop and apply AI/ML frameworks to explore novel feature space and to predict oligonucleotide drug properties, e.g. efficacy and toxicity, across diverse RNA targets.
- Analyse and integrate large biological datasets (e.g., transcriptomics, miRNA profiles, structural data) to inform oligonucleotide design and selection strategies
- Partner with therapeutic discovery and preclinical safety teams to translate computational predictions into experimentally validated candidates, driving iterative design–test–learn cycles towards the identification of a drug candidate enable end-to-end strategy/platform in RNA-based drug development.
- Stay current with emerging computational tools, algorithms, and scientific literature relevant to the development of differentiated RNA therapeutics
- Provide technical leadership and set project strategies, technical milestones, and delivery timelines. Ensure computational workflows follow best practices for data integrity, reproducibility, and engineering.
- Communicate the approach and findings effectively through internal/external reports, presentations, and publications. Enhance the organization’s Omics data foundation and technical capabilities.
Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Computational Chemistry, Biophysics, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or related fields.
- 2+ years postdoctoral or industry experience in large-scale omics data analysis (e.g., genomics and transcriptomics), preferably in oligonucleotides therapeutic discovery and preclinical safety.
- Strong bioinformatics and AI/ML skill set for biological datasets processing and integration, predictive specificity/activity modelling. Experience in integrating transcriptome‑wide data and applying predictive algorithms/models.
- Proficiency in high-performance and cloud-based computing, workflow design, pipeline development and optimization.
Preferred:
- Experience in therapeutic discovery and validation workflows. Familiarity with multi-species reference transcriptomes, microRNA and genetic variation databases, and RNA-based therapeutic prediction algorithms/models.
- Familiarity with multi-omics models and integrating data across multiple platforms, datasets and batches.
- Experience in AI-enabled workflow development, such as skills and AI agents
- Experience in defining research strategies and setting project milestones to drive innovation.
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to cross-functional teams.
Impact of the Role
In this role, you will lead pioneering projects advancing therapeutic discovery and clinical development. You will work in a collaborative, cross-functional research environment at the forefront of precision medicine, with access to cutting-edge omics data and technologies. You will have the flexibility to work at our Spanish sites or remotely, with global team integration.
