In this postdoctoral role within the Global Safety Pharmacology team in Beerse (Belgium), the successful candidate will contribute to the development of an integrated, regulatory-aligned cardiac safety assessment pipeline by combining scalable, population-relevant models with advanced AI/ML-enabled approaches. The role includes designing and executing experiments across a range of complex new approach methodologies (NAMs) and generating high-quality data to support the advancement of cardiac safety strategies. Working closely with internal and external collaborators, the candidate will provide scientific insight, critically interpret findings, and translate results into clear, compelling communications, including peer-reviewed publications and presentations at Johnson & Johnson events, scientific congresses, and symposia.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • PhD in Biomedical Sciences or a related discipline; background in cardiovascular science strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in functional assays, such as multielectrode array and fluorescence-based assays, as well as advanced cell culture techniques, particularly in cardiac models including hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes in 2D and 3D systems.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and integrate complex datasets using tools such as Excel, GraphPad, Spotfire, or comparable platforms.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Hands-on experience with innovative in vitro models, such as 3D cultures and/or organ-on-a-chip platforms, is desirable.
  • Strong scientific interest in the development and application of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), including 3D multicellular models and in silico modeling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with coding and/or data scripting for scientific data analysis, visualization, or workflow automation is advantageous.
  • Exposure to omics-based approaches, including the generation, analysis, or interpretation of high-dimensional biological datasets, is considered an asset.
  • Experience with imaging-based techniques and image analysis to support characterization of cellular or tissue models is preferred.
  • Interest in the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to biological data analysis, model development, and translational safety assessment is highly desirable.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€60,000.00 - €96,255.00
