Job Overview
The Sr. Manager, Energy Mgmt. / Utilities is a strategic and operational leader responsible for the safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of utilities and energy systems supporting manufacturing, laboratory, and commercial operations. This role has a direct impact on operational continuity, sustainability performance, cost optimization, and regulatory compliance.
This position leads energy strategy, utilities operations, and capital planning while advancing decarbonization, reliability, and resilience initiatives across the New Brunswick campus.
Key Responsibilities
Lead site‑wide energy management and utilities operations, including electricity, steam, chilled water, compressed air, natural gas, and water systems.
Develop and execute energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainability initiatives aligned with enterprise goals and regulatory requirements.
Own utilities reliability, capacity planning, and risk mitigation to ensure uninterrupted operations for manufacturing and critical facilities globally.
Manage operating and capital budgets, including long‑range utilities infrastructure planning and lifecycle asset management.
Partner and develop a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and external service providers, ensuring strong performance management and talent development.
Ensure full compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards (EPA, OSHA, state and local authorities).
Serve as the primary technical and strategic partner to site leadership teams, manufacturing, EHS, and sustainability stakeholders.
Oversee third‑party utility providers and contractors, including contract negotiations, performance metrics, and service delivery.
Establish global framework and methodology for sustainable energy improvement programs and partner closely with site operations and facilities managers to implement those programs.
Develop the energy sustainability initiative roadmap for global facilities and inform the capital appropriations process and LRFP for sustainability initiatives.
Partner with global real estate & global EHS&S to develop a strategy for energy sustainability programs and establish near-term and long-term goals for sustainability improvments.
Qualifications
Education
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Energy Engineering, or related field).
Preferred: Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Management, Sustainability, or Business Administration (MBA).
Experience and Skills
Required:
8–10 years of progressive experience in energy management, utilities, facilities engineering, or industrial infrastructure, including people leadership responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience managing central utility plants and complex site utilities in a regulated manufacturing or laboratory environment.
Strong knowledge of energy efficiency, sustainability, and decarbonization strategies.
Proven ability to manage capital projects, budgets, and vendor relationships.
Experience leading teams with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Experience in developing long range planning on sustainability programs and aligning organization goals to strategic energy and sustainability initiatives
Preferred:
Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or regulated life sciences manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with ISO 50001, utility benchmarking, and energy analytics platforms.
Experience supporting corporate sustainability reporting and ESG initiatives.
Demonstrated success driving continuous improvement and cost‑reduction programs.
