DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a HR Specialist, located in Suzhou, China.
The HR Specialist provides subject‑matter expertise in Employee and Labor Relations (ER / LR), supporting the business with compliant, consistent, and risk‑aware employee and labor relations practices. This role partners closely with HR, Legal, and business leaders to manage complex labor relations matters, interpret and apply labor laws, and support constructive employee relations strategies. The position plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization while enabling business continuity and positive employee outcomes in a highly regulated and dynamic environment within China.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as an Employee and Labor Relations subject‑matter expert, providing guidance on labor laws, collective relations, and employee relations matters.
Advise HR and business leaders on employee relations cases, disciplinary actions, grievances, and investigations.
Support the interpretation and application of local labor legislation, company policies, and employment practices.
Partner with Legal, HR and site Working union to manage labor disputes, claims, and external agency (local labor bureau officer) interactions when required.
Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of labor relations policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
Analyze labor relations trends and risks, providing insights and recommendations to mitigate issues proactively.
Support change initiatives (e.g., restructures, reorganizations) by providing labor‑relations guidance and risk assessments.
Deliver training or knowledge‑sharing sessions to HR and leaders on labor relations topics.
Where required to be managed locally:
Document handling: Print, stamp/seal, mail/ship, distribute, and route documents for wet signatures.
Records management: Store/archive/retrieve HR documents; fulfill requests; coordinate offsite storage; scan and name for Veeva.
Compliance/admin: Upload/submit filings; print and hand-deliver to agencies; support audits and onsite audit coordination.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources, Law, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience and Skills:
Required:
Typically 6-8 years of progressive experience in labor relations, employee relations, HR, or a related field.
Strong working knowledge of China labor laws and employment regulations.
Demonstrated experience managing complex employee relations or labor relations cases.
Ability to assess risk and provide practical, business‑focused recommendations.
Strong stakeholder‑management and influencing skills.
High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information.
Preferred:
Experience working in a multinational or matrixed organization.
Background supporting labor relations in a regulated industry such as MedTech, Pharma, or Manufacturing.
Experience supporting organizational change, restructuring, or workforce transformation initiatives.
Familiarity with employee investigations, dispute resolution, or external labor authority engagement.
Other:
Language: Fluent Mandarin Chinese and English required.
Travel: Minimal to moderate travel expected, primarily within China.
Certifications: HR, labor relations, or legal certifications preferred but not required.
