We are searching for the best talent for Crystallographer, to be in Beerse.

Purpose:

Joshnson and Johnson is recruiting for a crystallographer located in Beerse.

We are seeking a highly motivated Crystallographer to support the development of small-molecule/peptide drug candidates.

In this role, you will apply your expertise in crystallography and solid-state chemistry to characterize, understand, and control the polymorphism of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), enabling robust drug substance and drug product development.

Crystallographers play an important role in resolving atomic structures and linking them to material properties and performance in applications such as drug development and materials science.

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop and optimize crystal growth

  • Investigate transformation pathways and phase stability

  • Perform structure determination using single-crystal and powder diffraction techniques (X-ray, electron, or neutron).

  • Analyze and interpret crystallographic data to elucidate, refine, and validate structures.

  • Support solid-state characterization, including polymorph identification, phase analysis, and crystal quality assessment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., chemists, formulation scientists, materials scientists) to interpret results and guide decision-making.

  • Develop and apply crystallization strategies to obtain suitable crystals for structural analysis.

  • Maintain and operate crystallographic instrumentation and associated software (e.g., SHELX, Olex2, GSAS, Topas).

  • Document findings in reports, presentations, and scientific publications.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry, crystallography, or related field

Experience and Skills:

  • Theoretical and experimental experience in solid-state materials science

  • Communicate clearly using both written and spoken English

  • A record of innovation substantiated by publications

  • Work effectively in an interdisciplinary team

  • work on multiple projects simultaneously and handle changing priorities

  • Programming or data-processing skills (Python, MATLAB) are a plus.

  • Working knowledge and application of industry-standard crystallographic software and analysis methods

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to interpret complex structural data

  • Experience with crystallographic software (e.g., refinement/structure tools)

  • Effective communication in multidisciplinary environment

  • Proven understanding of solid-state chemistry and crystallization principles.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is:

€60,000.00 - €96,255.00

In addition to base pay, we offer the following benefits*: an annual bonus with set target (% of pay) depending on pay grade / location, where the actual amount is based on the employees’ and companies’ performance of the previous calendar year, or sales commissions.
