This role will be primarily responsible for the management, drafting and negotiation of contracts for Innovative Medicine Supply Chain Legal - Biotherapeutics. This candidate will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to complex contract negotiation and drafting of supply chain transactions within Biotherapeutics platform end to end, from clinical to commercial. Advise on contracts with high risk and high complexity involving suppliers across Biotherapeutics platform ranging from clinical to commercial supply. This role would be part of significant stakeholder inputs on operational decisions (Procurement, External Manufacturing, Discovery, Product Development & Supply, Collaboration partners firm forecast, capital, reservation fees) and encounter a different set of commitments based on the additional requirements of the varied parties, like External Manufacturers and Suppliers.
Responsibilities/Principal Duties:
The Legal Counsel, IM Supply Chain, Biotherapeutics will:
- Manage and execute drafting and negotiation of supply chain agreements relating to engagement of external manufacturers producing drug substance and drug products for commercial programs across Biotherapeutics platform.
- Manage and execute the drafting and negotiation of supply chain agreements relating to procurement of Drug Delivery Devices, API (active pharmaceutical ingredients), and packaging for large molecule and small molecule therapies with 3rd party suppliers.
- Draft, or supervise the drafting of, complex R&D agreements for clinical supply programs including Master Service Agreements, Research Collaboration Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, and other research related contracts, training materials, templates and supporting documents.
- Counsel & Support the IM SC Procurement & R&D Clinical Procurement organization and ensure stakeholder alignment and functional trainings as needed.
- Provide streamlined, risk-based legal counsel on supply chain issues in close collaboration with other functional groups (including Patents, Regulatory and Commercial Legal, Alliance Management, Privacy, Quality).
- Work closely with other members of the J&J Innovative Medicine Supply Chain legal team to identify and escalate risks and provide value-driven insights to advance supply chain capabilities.
- Be part of the IM SC Legal team and integrate as a team player understanding and supporting the team priorities and take responsibility for team objectives and programs in successfully executing those.
- Manage external counsel support and budget where relevant.
- Identify and adopt best practices and support process improvement initiatives in a continued effort to streamline contracting to improve timeliness, accuracy and quality in support of an increasing client base.
Qualifications:
- A J.D. or LL.M. with admission to and good standing with the bar of one state or the District of Columbia, or a European jurisdiction is required.
- Minimum of 7 years of legal experience required. Experience as in-house counsel in the life-sciences industry or attorney in the life-sciences practice of a large/mid-size law firm preferred.
- Good knowledge of current laws, regulations and industry standards governing R&D and IP in the life-sciences sector.
- Thorough understanding of contract law, with strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong business and analytical skills, problem solving ability, legal risk assessment skills, with the ability to influence and work collaboratively at all levels and across functions.
- Keen interest in designing, developing and leading strategic and process improvement initiatives as well as acumen in use of technology and AI.
- Be comfortable working with ambiguity and keen to interact with a diverse group of people and different businesses.
- Highly developed (virtual) team working, relationship management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Fluency in English, with the capability of drafting contract terms and conditions in English, is required.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is 92,800 to 159,505 EUR
