Job Description:

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Director, Trade Controls, this Hybrid position will be located in Raynham, MA (USA). Alternate Hybrid locations maybe considered at Loughberg, Ringaskiddy

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopedics business to establish a standalone orthopedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.

Job Overview

The Director, Trade Controls provides strategic leadership and oversight for global trade controls, ensuring DePuy Synthes operations comply with applicable import/export regulations, economic sanctions, and customs requirements. This role plays a critical part in enabling compliant global growth, protecting the company’s reputation, and supporting international supply chain operations. The position partners closely with Legal, Trade Operations, Health Care compliance, and other cross-functional partners in DePuy Synthes’ Global Trade ecosystem, operating across a complex trade regulations landscape to embed trade compliance into day‑to‑day operations and long‑term strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the global trade controls and compliance strategy, including export controls, import compliance, sanctions, and customs regulations.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with U.S. and international trade laws.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert and advisor to senior leadership on trade compliance risks, regulatory changes, and mitigation strategies.

  • Oversee classification, valuation, country‑of‑origin determinations, licensing, and restricted‑party screening processes.

  • Partner with Supply Chain, Logistics, and Manufacturing teams to support compliant global sourcing, distribution, and product movements.

  • Manage government agency interactions, audits, inquiries, and disclosures related to trade compliance.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of trade compliance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

  • Design and deliver training programs to ensure employee awareness and adherence to trade compliance requirements.

  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess business impact, recommending proactive actions to maintain compliance and business continuity.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Business, Supply Chain, International Trade, Law, or related field).

  • Advanced degree (MBA, JD, or equivalent) preferred.

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Generally, 10-12 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, risk management, export controls, or customs within a regulated, multinational environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. export controls, economic sanctions, and global import regulations.

  • Experience partnering with cross‑functional teams to embed compliance into business operations.

  • Proven ability to assess risk, implement controls, and drive corrective actions.

Preferred:

  • Experience in medical technology, life sciences, or other highly regulated industries.

  • Global or regional responsibility supporting multiple countries or regions.

  • Experience leading regulatory audits or government engagements.

  • Familiarity with trade compliance systems and data analytics tools.

  • Change leadership experience supporting organizational or operational transformation.

  • Excellent communication, judgment, and decision‑making skills.

Other:

  • Language: English required; additional languages a plus.

  • Travel: Up to ~20% domestic and international travel.

  • Certifications: Trade compliance or customs certifications and/or license preferred (e.g., Licensed Customs Broker, CCS, CUSECO, or equivalent).

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$150,000.00 - $258,750.00

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).



This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.



Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation –120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Colorado –48 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year

Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year

Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child

Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member: 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year

Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period10 days

Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year

Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
