Job Description:

Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.​

DePuy Synthes is recruiting for a Sr. Manager, Compliance, located in Shanghai, China.

This role provides senior‑level compliance leadership within the Finance organization, ensuring adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards across China. The Sr. Manager, Compliance partners closely with Finance, Legal, Internal Audit, and business leadership to design, implement, and continuously improve compliance programs that support business growth while managing risk. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on governance, controls, and decision‑making across the organization, offering the opportunity to shape a strong culture of integrity and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee finance‑related compliance programs, ensuring alignment with global policies, local regulations, and internal control standards.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance and business leaders on compliance risk assessment, mitigation strategies, and control design.

  • Design, implement, and maintain compliance monitoring, testing, and reporting processes to identify gaps and drive corrective actions.

  • Partner with Internal Audit, Legal, and external stakeholders to support audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries.

  • Drive continuous improvement of compliance processes through data analysis, root‑cause assessment, and remediation planning.

  • Develop and deliver compliance training and communications to strengthen awareness and accountability across Finance teams.

  • Lead, coach, and develop compliance team members, fostering strong performance, engagement, and professional growth.

  • Support regional and global initiatives related to governance, risk management, and organizational readiness.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Law, or a related discipline (required).

  • Master’s degree or MBA (preferred).

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in compliance, finance, audit, or risk management within a multinational organization.

  • Demonstrated experience leading compliance programs, internal controls, or governance initiatives.

  • Strong knowledge of finance processes, regulatory requirements, and compliance risk frameworks.

  • Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and influence decision‑making in a matrixed environment.

  • Experience managing and developing team members.

  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the medical device, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated industry.

  • Prior exposure to China regulatory environments and cross‑border compliance requirements.

  • Experience supporting audits, investigations, or regulatory inspections.

  • Familiarity with enterprise risk management and continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Ability to lead change and drive process standardization at scale.

Other:

  • Language: Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English (written and spoken) required.

  • Travel: Up to 10–20%, primarily domestic with occasional international travel.

  • Certifications: CPA, CIA, CFE, or equivalent professional certification (preferred).
