Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Principal Data Product Scientist, DDSAI Immunology to join our Immunology R&D Data, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DDSAI) team and to enable and scale high‑value data assets across Immunology Research & Development. This position will be located on site at one of our offices in either Spring House PA, Cambridge MA, Titusville NJ, Raritan NJ, or San Diego CA (NO fully remote option available).

The Principal Data Product Scientist will operate at the intersection of Immunology scientific teams, data scientists, data engineering/platform teams, and external data partners. The focus is on translating business and scientific needs to enable effective execution of analytics, modeling, and AI‑enabled research. The role emphasizes data needs management, gap identification, data governance, and cross‑functional execution, with responsibility for ensuring progress against known gaps while surfacing new and emerging data opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Needs Management & Opportunity Identification

  • Partner with Immunology leadership and analytics teams to translate data gaps into clearly defined data opportunities and business needs, in coordination with the Data Strategy and Products team
  • Support strategic prioritization by assessing impact, feasibility, readiness, and dependencies associated with new data initiatives.

Data Product Ownership & Curation

  • Act as a data product owner for priority Immunology datasets, defining scope, quality expectations, documentation requirements, refresh cycles, and success metrics.
  • Work with Immunology scientists and data scientists to translate scientific questions into concrete data requirements, ensuring datasets are fit‑for‑purpose and reusable.
  • Ensure datasets are well‑curated, discoverable, traceable, and compliant with internal standards for analytics, modeling, and AI/ML applications.

Interface with Data Engineering & Platforms

  • Possess working knowledge of the end‑to‑end data engineering lifecycle, including Data Transfer Agreements (DTA), data access provisioning, data pipelines, harmonization and standardization, anonymization and privacy controls.
  • Interface between Immunology R&D stakeholders and data engineering/platform teams, enabling clear communication of requirements, constraints, and dependencies.
  • Align data needs with platform capabilities, ensuring that Immunology datasets are integrated, governed, and scalable within enterprise data environments.

Data Sourcing, Partnerships & Alliances

  • Coordinate data procurement activities across internal sources and external partners (e.g., RWD vendors, academic collaborators, technology partners).
  • Collaborate with Legal, Procurement, Privacy, and Compliance to support data use documentation, contracting, licensing, and governance controls.
  • Act as a key operational point of contact for external data partners, managing delivery expectations, refresh schedules, and issue resolution.

Cross‑Functional Enablement & Governance

  • Ensure shared understanding and execution between data scientists, immunologists, engineers, legal, and platform teams. Establish and maintain metadata, data use documentation, lineage, and versioning to support compliance, transparency, and reuse.
  • Define and monitor operational KPIs related to data timeliness, quality, completeness, and adoption.
  • Support adoption by ensuring ease of access, documentation, and usability

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (required) in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics.
    Advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in data operations, data product management, data curation, analytics enablement, or similar roles.
  • Prior experience in or closely collaborating with:
    • Technology‑enabled life sciences or research platforms (e.g., digital health, research technology divisions).
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Track and manage evolving data demand across multiple stakeholders
    • Interface effectively with data engineering and platform teams
    • Navigate data governance, documentation, and compliance processes
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to drive through complex, matrixed teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Immunology, oncology, or broader life sciences R&D initiatives.
  • Familiarity with healthcare and life sciences data standards (e.g., OMOP, FHIR, CDISC) and multimodal data sources.
  • Prior experience with Real‑World Data (RWD) organizations.
  • Experience acting in a liaison or product‑style role rather than a hands‑on coding role.
  • Comfort with operating at the intersection of science, data, engineering, legal, and vendor partnerships.
  • Understanding of metadata, ontologies, and semantic layers
  • Familiarity with FAIR data principles and reusable data design
