Purpose:
The Senior Ergonomics & EHS Technician is responsible for coordinating and executing ergonomic, occupational health, and safety programs to identify, evaluate, and reduce workplace risks while promoting a safe and healthy work environment. This role serves as the site technical resource for ergonomics, leading ergonomic assessments, injury prevention initiatives, return-to-work programs, and risk reduction activities across the organization.
Under the supervision of the Site EHS&S Representative, the position supports compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, Johnson & Johnson EHS Standards, ISO 14001 requirements, and occupational health programs. The role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Human Resources, Medical Services, Quality, and Maintenance to drive continuous improvement in ergonomics, occupational health, safety performance, and employee wellbeing.
You will be responsible for:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Administer and support Ergonomics, Occupational Safety, and ELSSA (IMSS Certification) programs, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, corporate standards, and departmental objectives.
Conduct ergonomic assessments and risk evaluations using methodologies such as RULA, ROSA, REBA, Ergonomic Job Assessment (EJA), NIOSH, and other ergonomic tools to identify hazards and implement risk reduction measures.
Investigate occupational injuries, incidents, near misses, and work-related illnesses, including coordination and follow-up of ST-7 and ST-9 cases, identifying root causes and verifying implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Support Fitness for Duty, Alternative Duty, and Return-to-Work processes in coordination with Medical Services and Human Resources, ensuring employees are safely assigned according to medical restrictions and job requirements.
Perform safety inspections, audits, and employee training activities, promoting compliance with EHS policies, identification of unsafe conditions and behaviors, and strengthening the organization's prevention culture.
Monitor EHS, Occupational Health, and Ergonomics performance indicators, providing follow-up on action plans and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and Medical Services to identify opportunities for risk reduction and workplace improvements.
Support site compliance with occupational health, safety, and ergonomic regulations, standards, and internal procedures.
Participate in ergonomic program development, workstation assessments, and implementation of engineering or administrative controls designed to minimize ergonomic risk factors.
Maintain records, reports, and documentation related to safety, health, ergonomics, incident investigations, and regulatory requirements.
Know & follow J&J policies & procedures related to work activities performed in area of responsibility
Complete training in area of responsibility within allowed time period. Training is required for changes in existing policies & procedures, for new assignments & for implementation of new policies & procedures. Complete required periodic re-training in areas such of EHS&S.
Assist with EHS&S Incident Investigations.
Assist with technical support for EHS&S.EHS&S Committees, Teams, Programs or Events
Work closely with the Site EHS&S Representative to ensure the facility is in full compliance with operating permits.
Assist with monitoring progress of action plans, incidents, corrective action, equipment evaluations and associates and public complaints.
Assist Contractors supervision.
Assist with the evaluation, planning and implementation of appropriate EHS&S program components; under direct level of supervision, assist with projects requiring basic knowledge of EHS&S to the identification of potential risk to conduct analysis of the level of risk to the implementation of appropriate control measures in the area.
Responsible for organizing and coordinating the Site’s Recycling, Hazardous & Non-Hazardous Waste programs. Including day-to-day coordinating collection, storage, pick-ups and disposal of wastes to J&J approved TSD facilities.
Documents all recycling, hazardous and non-hazardous waste activities and provides required updated reports to the Site EHS&S Representative.
Conducts inspections to identify EHS&S issues in the facility.
Responsible for conducting required inspections of hazardous waste installations, biohazard waste installations, cafeteria and outside perimeter to ensure EHS&S compliance with regulations.
Work with the Site EHS&S Representative to support the development and implementation of program to achieve J&J EHS&S Goals.
Assist in writing and updating policies, procedures, documents and forms of the EHS&S system through the document control system.
Assist in the evaluation of equipment, task, process, workstations, office and manufacturing environment to identified EHS&S or ergonomic issues to address through an action plan.
Assist in office tasks such as filling, printing, generating purchase requisitions, getting quotes, handling vendors, recordkeeping etc.
Works closely with the Emergency Response Teams as well as other Teams to offer leadership and support in developing training exercises.
Assists the Site EHS&S Representative in providing proper EHS&S awareness training to new/temporary J&J associates and contractors.
Follow J&J Records Management Policies for Convenience Information, Records Retention Schedules, Training and Education, Document Hold Notices, Records Cleanout, Inactive Records and Information Management, Vital Records and third-party vendor if applicable.
Assist the Site EHS&S Representative with the development and implementation of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System & MAARS program at the facility.
Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
Performs other duties assigned as needed
Qualifications / Requirements:
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s Degree (Preferred). Minimum of High School Diploma.
Approximate experience, or equivalent knowledge and skills, necessary to satisfactorily perform the position responsibilities. 4 to 6 years of experience in related fields
Basic English reading comprehension required to understand procedures, standards, work instructions, and technical documentation available in English.
Experience in ergonomics programs, occupational health, workplace injury prevention, return-to-work initiatives, and risk assessments is highly preferred.
Knowledge of Mexican occupational health and safety regulations, IMSS processes, and ELSSA programs is preferred.
GMP/ ISO (18001 / 14001) knowledge preferred
Knowledge of product and processes preferred
