Job Purpose
The Clinical Sales Specialist – Arthroplasty is responsible for maintaining and growing the DePuy Synthes Joint Reconstruction business across Cape Town through exceptional clinical support, surgeon engagement, account management, and portfolio development.
The primary focus of the role is to protect and strengthen existing business within established arthroplasty accounts while identifying opportunities to increase procedure volumes, expand product utilization, and drive market share gains. The role is expected to dedicate approximately 80% of time to maintaining and supporting existing business and 20% of time to developing new business opportunities within existing customer accounts.
Working closely with orthopaedic surgeons, theatre teams, procurement stakeholders, hospital management, and internal business partners, the Clinical Sales Specialist serves as the clinical and commercial expert for the DePuy Synthes Arthroplasty portfolio in Cape Town.
Key Responsibilities
Business Maintenance and Customer Support
- Maintain and defend existing arthroplasty business within assigned Cape Town accounts.
- Provide outstanding clinical and technical support during primary and revision hip and knee procedures.
- Ensure consistent theatre coverage and support for all scheduled cases.
Business Development and Portfolio Expansion
- Identify growth opportunities within existing customer accounts.
- Increase utilization of the arthroplasty portfolio through upselling and cross-selling activities.
Product and Clinical Expertise
- Become the recognized arthroplasty expert within the assigned geography.
- Maintain a high level of clinical knowledge relating to: Primary Knee Arthroplasty Primary Hip Arthroplasty Revision Knee Arthroplasty Revision Hip Arthroplasty Robotic-Assisted Surgery Implant and Instrument Technologies
- Deliver product training and education to healthcare professionals.
Territory and Account Management
- Execute territory plans aligned to annual commercial objectives.
- Conduct regular account reviews and opportunity assessments.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Life Sciences, Healthcare, Nursing, Clinical Technology, Business, or related field.
- Experience in orthopaedics, medical devices, healthcare sales, or clinical support preferred.
- Knowledge of arthroplasty procedures and operating theatre environments advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Sound analytical and territory management capability.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team.
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the Cape Town region.
